Flex4K with non-4K TVs

Post by KingdomeCome »

I'm considering upgrading to a Flex4k because one of the stations that's notoriously difficult to receive in this area has gone Next Gen with its broadcast tower in a much better location also.

I only have regular HD 1080p TVs. Will my Nvidia Shield still be able to display the ATSC 3.0 channels on my regular HD TVs? I assume so but figured I'd check before purchasing.

Also, no issues with ATSC 3.0 audio on the Nvidia Shields, correct?

Should be no issue, as though i have a 4k tv i generally keep the box set to 1080 for bandwidth usage issues from other apps. Keep in mind the shield itself doesn't support ac4 but SD offers online transcoding in the android app (to stereo not real 5.1 or higher) so sound "works" but for some not ideal. I believe Channels may offer a bit better decoding but it also isn't always as good as the regular atsc audio on the shield. But much of this is subjective and most don't really care if it's really 5.1 but many do.

Thanks. Is there any sense on when AC4 might get native support?
