Enigma2 support

Post by IanSav »

Hi,

Is anyone aware of any efforts to get a Linux driver onto Enigma2 capable boxes so that HDHomeRun tuners can be used as a signal source for the Enigma2 firmware?

I am using openATV (https://github.com/openatv) and I am located in Australia. Finding boxes that come with DVB-T tuners is getting harder every day. Most of the hardware, if it supports terrestrial, only supports DVB-T2 but this is NOT the system used in Australia. We are still on DVB-T. My HDHomeRun HDHR5-4DT is working perfectly here and has tuners to spare. I would love to find a way to allow a HDHomeRun box to become linked, via the network, to the Enigma2 firmware such that Enigma2 sees the HDHomeRun like it would any of the tuners that are often built into the hardware.

I am aware of other users who would like to run Enigma2 and would probably be interested in getting a HDHomeRun to partner a box running Enigma2. Having access to 4 DVB-T tuners would be a great advantage to the solution as this number of DVB-T tuners is no longer available. This could also open the door to Enigma2 boxes with no tuners but an integration link to a partner HDHomeRun. ;)

I would welcome any information or suggestions available.

Regards,
Ian.

For some reason I thought enigma2 supported an m3u list which the hdhr's can generate. I'm also not aware of any t2 tuner that didn't also support t.

Hi,

I was more looking to fully integrate my HDHomeRun as a core device in the Enigma2 environment. When you look at the tuner status you are seeing the HDHomeRun tuners. Setting a timer will be a timer that transparently selects and uses a HDHomeRun tuner. Updating the EPG can be done by accessing the HDHomeRun tuners. Etc.

As for the T and T2 question, I thought the T2 also supported T. Lately manufacturers have started removing the T option from their specifications. When I questioned this I was told that the new tuners will not support T mode. I am not prepared to import a box only to find that this limitation is true. This aspect aside, having access to a HDHomeRun would allow me to add up to 4 separate tuner streams for parallel recordings. Internal multiple DVB-T tuners is no longer readily available.

I think what I am looking for is a set of drivers that transparently link a network connected HDHomeRun to appear as normal internal digital tuner within Linux.

If anyone needs more information to try and help or point my in the right direction then please ask and I will try to answer.

Regards,
Ian.
