Win 10 app MF_MEDIA_ENGINE_ERR_DECODE : HRESULT - 0xC00D36F2

Post by joelau007 »

I have been seeing this error code probably since the middle of June 2020.

Live TV will hang and show the error MF_MEDIA_ENGINE_ERR_DECODE : HRESULT - 0xC00D36F2
If I wait a while it will also show Unable to play channel: Communication error

Model: HDHR4-2DT
Firmware: 20200521

Win 10 20200529 (App) / 20200610c (UI)

This setup used to be super stable, but since the App audio bug in May 2020 there has been multiple updates to the Win 10 App version.
Also firmware 20200521 was applied in the beginning of June.

Any idea what's this error ? Is this ever going to be stable again ?

I saw this quite often due to the changes in latest app update starting at the end of May 2020, typically during channel switch between certain channels. For example, when I switch between CNBC and CNN channels. Turn off AC3 passthrough typically helps. I avoid use Win10 App as much as possible for this reason. Android TV app is much more stable.

I wish they stop messing around with the App, it has been one bug after another.
I can't even stop upgrading the App when I have a stable version (before May 2020) because the update is via Windows store. How I wish it's back to the old .exe that I have to choose to install.

Come on fix this s**t and stop messing around with it. We are in the middle of a PANDEMIC, staying at home, watching more TV and you have to mess around with the software.

There isn't a singular cause for this, as this is just a Windows playback error. It can be caused by a drop in network packets, a drop in signal, etc.

Possibly because of the server outage that happened around the same time, but unfortunately I don't see any app diagnostics from around the time you posted this message.

I have been see this error in recent weeks, with some visible packet loss and freezes. I have an HDHomeRun Prime tuner. Is there a way to troubleshoot the like source of this packet loss (LAN vs HFC plant)? Th tuner is showing "100% for signal strength and Signal/Symbol quality.
