Recordings not available/visible

Post by Sion »

I'm not sure when this started, so not sure on what event may have triggered this, but recently my recordings are not visible in the HDHomeRun app, on any of my devices (AndroidTV, Android phone, Windows10 PCs, and XBox One.) When I click on the "recorded" tab in the app, there's just a message saying "Your HDHomeRun DVR is ready to record".
I have years of HDHR recordings on my Synology NAS. Not sure what has happened, but all the recordings are still there.
Can anyone please help me troubleshoot this?
Android app version is 20200526 EDIT: just realized the android app says "20200526 (app) / 20200610c (UI) (beta)"
Windows10 version is 20200214 (App) / 20200610c (UI)
Firmware on my Connect is 20200521
Record engine version is 20200225

Thanks in advance for any help/direction on this! :)

The record engine is getting an error back from the OS when it requests dir change notifications.

Recordings will still work but they won't show up in the HDHomeRun apps.

What exact model of Synology?

Can we have you check the Synology web UI:
  1. Log into the Synology
  2. Open the "Control Panel"
  3. Open "File Sharing"
  4. Open "Shared Folders"
  5. Click on the "HDHomeRun" share, then click on "Edit"
  6. Click on the "Permissions" tab
  7. See if "guest" and your log-in user has read/write access

Hi Ned. Thanks for helping out.

Wait a minute... what do you mean by "and your log-in user" in the last step above?

The user you log in with. I'm not sure if it's needed or not, just looking at what my settings look like on my Synology, and it shows my login name as a user with access to the HDHomeRun share.

It might be a case of resetting permissions from the command line. Let me check to see what the correct flags are.

Go into the Synology Control Panel -> Terminal & SNMP -> Terminal -> Enable SSH service

SSH into the Synology using your web interface login credentials: https://www.howtogeek.com/336775/how-to ... -commands/

Then type in this command:

Code: Select all

ls -ld /volume1/HDHomeRun/
and reply back with what it says.

Just checking in. I'm away from home for this week, will post back when I return and can test this stuff more. Thanks for helping... I'm not just dropping my thread. 😁

I had the same issue with my Windows 10 hdhomerun server. As I recall, the issue started after I did a server software update (or reinstall). First, using Windows File Explorer, I checked the server's designated Recordings folder and found that all my recording folders and recorded episodes were still on the disk. When I checked the permissions for the Recordings folder, I found that the permissions for the Administrative User included Read and Write.

When I clicked on the Windows Start button and then clicked on the HDHomerun menu item, a "Configure" item appeared under the HDHomerun menu item. When I clicked on the "Configure" menu item, a configure window opened up which had a "DVR" tab on it. When I clicked on the "DVR" tab, an animated "Configuring" bar ran, after which I was able to access my recorded episodes normally using the FireTV app. Hope this procedure solves your problem.

Sorry took so long for me to get back to this...

Code: Select all

admin@server:~$ ls -ld /volume1/HDHomeRun/
drwxrwxrwx+ 24 root root 36864 Jul 5 20:59 /volume1/HDHomeRun/
