Recordings - UI Fix or DVR fix?

For the past severl months now we have all been living with Recordings that appear to have been recorded but do not appear under "Recordings" in the UI.

That is until after you force a shutdown and reboot of the Scribe (running Beta). Then all of the missing recordings mysteriously appear, under "Recordings" in the UI.

This is happening with both Fire Stick and Roku hardware. So is this a DVR software issue or a UI issue?

I have seen it happen as both...

In some cases the client device seems to cache the http request for the list, and/or just doesn't update "all". In other cases the scribe/servio just doesn't update such as the DVR only updates on the OS properly notifying it of directory changes (on other platforms this can be because of too many recordings (often there are commands to help such), using a non-attached drive, etc.).

In the case of scribe/servio personally I have only seen it happen once on each (pre-beta, never on latest beta) where the engine itself didn't actually show the recordings in the recorded_files.json requested by the client but have on more than one occasion seen a client apparently not update such, particularly if one is just using the "all" part of the list, but does show the latest if one goes into the show.

We've got a firmware update coming soon that has a bunch of changes, including a fix for one cause of this.

That's great news that there's a fix on the way. I've also experienced this and have to pull the plug to reboot the device to rescan the media. Is there a less abrubt way to reboot the scribe unit?

SiliconDust provided the following from Windows

"%programfiles%\silicondust\hdhomerun\hdhomerun_config.exe" XXXXX set /sys/restart self

Where XXXXX is your device ID.
