Channel Pixelization

Post by regrossman19 » Sat Nov 09, 2019 11:07 am

I just setup a prime tuner on Fios. Activated fine and can tune to many channels ok, but several also show pixelization and I notice on this channels the signal quality is low < 50%. I tried minimzing splitters and right now the prime is in a 4 way splitter. Not sure what else I can do to fix this.

My first guess would be the ONT starting to go and is having issues with the mid range channels. There may also be an issue of something in the area generating interference on that frequency (are you near an airport?). I have also seen MoCA interference at either 1/3 or 1/2 the frequency of the beacon (I believe on fios I typically saw this around 350MHz but it has been years since I have installed in a fios area).

My suggestion would be to enable sending of diagnostics data and running a channel scan then maybe jasonl (or another from SD) can see some pattern (years ago, one may have also wanted to run such scan without the cablecard to get a more frequency based scan but today I probably wouldn't do that unless asked by someone from SD).

We are having same issues with some STBs in the house so I'm going to try and get Verizon to replace the ONT, but not sure if anything else can resolve this. I have diagnostics turned on already.

Please run a channel scan and reply back. That will give us a better overall picture of the signal, from which we can normally identify a failing ONT.

Verizon came out and replaced ONT, all is perfect now. Missing channels also now work. Did not do a rescan but when tuning into HBO with WMC, every channel works.
