Anyway to correct DAR?

Post by GGRussell » Wed Aug 14, 2019 4:42 pm

My local NBC has 10.1 10.2 and 10.3 OTA. Unfortunately, Charter has split these on different cable channels far apart. When a program gets preempted (telethon tonight), the show is still shown on 10News 2 on cable. My issues is that the original 10.2 OTA is 720p, but Charter converts to 480i with DAR of 4:3 causing the image to be squished. I suppose the techs at Spectrum have no clue. Anyway to correct this?

I'd contact the station and see if they can help. They'd probably want their broadcast displayed correctly on Charter and might be able to ask them to flip it to 480i 16:9, or worst case, 480i 4:3 letterboxed. They'll also have some sort of technical contact at Charter who's responsible for handling the local broadcast signals, so that's a much better option than trying to get it sent from the support side. The Closed Captioning link at the bottom of the station's website has contact info for someone who seems like the right person to speak with.
