New UI - Live TV automatically jumped to much earlier

Postby leerandall » Fri May 17, 2019 8:23 pm

I've seen it do this a couple of times since I've been using the new UI. But today, I was watching live TV tuned to MSNBC (ch. 225) all day using my Shield, which is also where my DVR engine resides. It was some time between 3:30pm and 4:00pm EDT this afternoon during Ali Velshi's show, I looked at the screen to see where the stock market was at the moment and everything was normal (Ali Velshi's show). I went about my business and about 10 minutes later, I looked at the TV again and Morning Joe from shortly after 7:00am EDT this morning was playing instead of Ali Velsi's live show. After scratching my head for a couple of minutes not understanding what happened, I changed channels to something else, then back to MSNBC, and Ali Velshi was back live again as expected. I did not record Morning Joe this morning, so it must have been playing the time-shift buffer. But how and why?

Diagnostics was turned on at the time.

Hmmm. Something similar just happened with my Shield. We had a thunderstorm roll through, which knocked out our cable and internet access. Just a few minutes before the cable went out, I had changed channels to the CBS affiliate ch. 214. When the cable went out, WMC, which was running on my Win7 box lost video and audio as expected, yet my Shield continued to play video/audio. But after a few minutes, I realized it was looping over and over the same few minutes of video that was playing shortly after I changed channels to 214. So I changed channels again, and of course I can no longer receive any channels because the cable is still out.

I had this issue yesterday while watching the PGA tournament. Several times "Live TV" jumped on it's own to a much earlier time in the broadcast.

It happened again this morning. I started watching channel 225 when I started up the HDHR app shortly after 7:00am EDT and let live TV play on that channel. Then at 9:22am, I looked at it and realized that it was playing channel 225 from 8:05am EDT instead the current live TV content. I tried to change channels to get back to live content, but I couldn't because the slice guide had no program data. So I shut down the app, and restarted it, and everything was back to normal, including program data in the slice guide. Diagnostics has been turned on for days in the app.

This may be related to the program data leak others have reported. It may be tricky to figure this one out, but we'll take a look.

I think 20190521-12:00:01 may be the time at which live TV skipped backward in time. From today's log file:

My guess is there was some form of interruption where the app had to reconnect, and the reconnect resulted in it restarting from the beginning of the available buffer.

We will investigate further.
