Firestick problems since recent updates

Postby pb_cymru » Mon Aug 06, 2018 2:46 pm

Running 2 Amazon Firesticks (latest generation) and since latest Android updates I’ve been getting constant picture breakup (every 5-10 seconds) on HD channels and recordings. SD channels are fine and audio isn’t affected only video. Both sticks were working flawlessly prior to recent updates.

Anybody else affected? Any solutions/ideas?

Thanks!

Do you have AC3 passthrough turned off in the settings screen?

Yes. Tried that. Made no difference.

Please enable the sending of diagnostics both on a Windows or Mac computer and then in the Android app (see viewtopic.php?f=15&t=69066) and watch live TV on a problem channel for 10 minutes. Reply back with the device ID for your HDHomeRun and we will check the logs

I’ve just followed your instructions. Device ID’s:
123144C7
12319BB4

I played Channel 107 BBC News (HD) from 17.37 to 17.47 BST on first Firestick and same channel from 17.50 to 18.09 BST on second Firestick. Random picture break up throughout on both devices.

Nothing standing out in the logs. Can you shut down the DVR service and repeat the viewing? Sometimes the DVR can mask certain issues, or introduce other ones, so I'd like to take it out of the loop temporarily.

I’ve done as instructed and run Channel 107 for 10 minutes. No change - still random picture break up.

A couple of other observations. I recorded a bit of this channel with picture break up and then played it back and the picture break up occurs at the same point each time it’s played. I’ve also installed Kodi with djp952’s unofficial PVR plugin and that also chokes at the same points and if I try to play Channel 107 BBC News it causes Kodi to crash and quit. If I play the same recording or channel on Mac, iPad or iPhone using both Homerun app or Kodi with plugin, it plays with no problems.

Maybe I'm missing it in the logs, but I only see about 2 minutes of channel 107 yesterday, from 21:28 to 21:30 BST. Not enough to determine if anything was happening.

Not sure what happened as channel ran until about 9.50pm. I've re-run the test this morning from 7.50am to 8.09am BST. Again Channel 107 BBC News with Mac Mini which runs DVR shut down.

If this helps, this video shows how the picture break up looks (filmed at 8.08am): https://www.dropbox.com/s/czj490xfjswh0 ... 2.MOV?dl=0

Could this be something to do with the beta firmware for the 2 homerun units which was updated recently?

Working to see if we can get that same setup in place with our Android team so they can investigate the issue. Think it might be related to another bug we're tracking internally with video corruption.

I have the exact same problem. I have 2 FireSticks and both are choppy. My 2 iOs devices still run HDHR normally and my Windows 10 laptop and Macbook Pro still run perfectly HDHR normal as well. I think the problem might be related to some codec change or video format in either HDHR Prime or FireStick. I even now get a warning on IOS “This IOS device has limited support for the video format used by this channel. The video may stutter or “

Just like this user, this only affects my HD channels.

Any news on investigating this issue? Would be nice to get this working again as our whole house DVR solution is unusable while this persists. Thank goodness for online alternatives otherwise I’d be getting serious grief from the rest of the family!

Any update on this? Still unable to use either of our Firesticks for HD channels and recordings.

Any news on an update? It's now 2 weeks since last post. Thanks.
