That's not correct on both accounts.cubdukat wrote: Wed Feb 05, 2025 8:11 pm But if your system can't passthrough E-AC3, DDP has a core AC-3 stream that should go through, same as with TrueHD.

Re: Speaker Configuration
My bad. I had thought DDP also used an AC-3 core like TrueHD.
Sadly, the overhaul did not solve the problem. I’m now looking at either the TV or the AVR receiver itself. The GPU is a higher HDMI spec than the receiver or the TV (2.1 for the GPU, 2.0a for the TV and 2.0 for the receiver), so it’s having to dumb itself down to the lowest common denominator. I’m thinking if Inupgrade at least the receiver, I might get that back.
I know there’s AC-3 onboard because I had to restore it from AnWave and I also have the Dolby Access app.

Re: Speaker Configuration
I need some clarification on "Speaker Configuration" on the android app. This looks like the correct feed to post on.
I assume the HDHOMERUN player app does not have an AC4 software codec and my TV or STB would need the Dolby AC4 SW or HD codec to decode? My Sony Smart TV is a 2017 model and using Aida 64 I see I have AC3, eac3, dts, as well as Hevc. How does my TV play the AC4 (atsc3.0) sound on my Smart TV?
My Android 11 Chinese STB does have AC3, DTS, eac3 and AC4 along with HEVC. My Onkio AVR only has DTS and possibly AC3. When using my STB and the HDplayer app should sound config be set to 5.1, 7.1, or passthrough? IE: what sound settings do I use to get the STB to decode AC4 and send the decoded sound to the AVR to play back/convert to 7.1 neo or 5.1 DTS?
How do I know from the HD player app that I am listening to AC4 and not a transcoded AC3?

Re: Speaker Configuration
Devices that do not have an AC-4 codec use our transcode service and will get stereo audio back that gets output in the selected format. Most devices that have a built-in decoder access it via the app trying to do passthrough, and you'll either get PCM in the appropriate channel count if stereo/5.1/7.1 is selected or I believe either EAC3 or AC3 passthrough to the receiver depending on what audio formats are enabled in the Android audio settings. Some also list a separate AC-4 codec but on many devices this will only output stereo for reasons unknown. So you probably want to use the correct speaker count for your setup.
Re: Speaker Configuration
Thank you for your post. It is still confusing to me why you would transcode an AC4 5.1 soundtrack to a stereo output, but maybe the transcode process has limits. I noticed that the HD player app does not provide any information or indication of what soundtrack the video stream is playing. It would be helpful to have an indication on the vanishing control bar that indicated DD2.0, DD2.1, DD5.1, DD7,1, or Atmos. And at that point an indication for the type of video 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p as well as MPEG2, MPEG4-AVC, and HEVC.jasonl wrote: Thu Sep 03, 2026 5:44 pm Devices that do not have an AC-4 codec use our transcode service and will get stereo audio back that gets output in the selected format. Re: Speaker Configuration
I've been reading this forum (and other relevant AV forums) for a long time, and I don't think it's ever been stated. Could be software limitation, conserving resources, licensing, or a combination of resources/licensing/cost.geriakt wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2026 6:10 am Thank you for your post. It's a mystery!
Re: Speaker Configuration
Different hardware on our side is needed for 5.1/7.1 transcode. It's being looked into, but no ETA or firm plans at the moment that I can share.

Hopefully you can provide a 5.1 transcode soon or that AC4 codecs will become common on every STB and Android/Apple device. I hope we get an update on the Onn 4K pro AC4 dilemma soon.
