Switched Record Engine from Windows to Linux, no recordings

Post by cncb »

I just switched my DVR Record engine from Windows to Linux. I copied all the recordings over and installed the Linux Record engine as instructed. I looked in the Linux-generated log file and it shows that it found the recordings in the RecordPath, but displays no recordings in the HDHomeRun app? Is there some kind of "hook-up" I need to do so the app finds the recordings? I tried rebooting everything. Thanks.

Most likely your Linux system is running a firewall that is blocking communication.

1) Explicitly set the port number in the conf file, for example:
Port=4999
(can be any port number you want).

2) Configure the firewall to allow incoming TCP connections on the port number you chose, and incoming UDP packets on port 65001.

I have Linux Mint where the firewall is disabled by default. Do I need to have an entry for port in the configuration? The instructions only mentioned RecordPath.

A Port entry is not required if the firewall is disabled, but it isn't a bad idea to set one anyway just to make sure it's always where you expect it to be, and so you can test to see if it is accessible from other devices via http://ip.address:port/ (use the actual IP address and port, of course).

I added Port=4999 to the configuration file and restarted. The hdhomerun_record status shows it as running, but I can't access this from a Windows computer/browser (refused to connect)? I have the IP address to the Linux machine correct.

Make sure you're typing in http://<ip address> in the browser address bar as most browsers will try and use https by default if not specified

Possibly firewall/AV on the Windows PC might be blocking?
Also - any VPNs, or VLANs in play?
or L3 managed switches with ACLs?
ping working between windows and mint machines?

In addition - make sure the DVR engine is showing it is using the port via the log - e.g.

Code: Select all

20260817-14:12:18 System: website port = 59090
should be 4999

Also check the engine is listening on the linux mint PC with

Code: Select all

lsof -i TCP | grep LISTEN
should show the port is being listened to by the engine

Thanks for the suggestions. I added an entry to the "Application Autostart" list to start hdhomerun_record on login. This works in that hdhomerun_record is running but it seems to ignore the configuration file and no entry is generated in the log file. If I stop hdhomerun_record and start it manually it uses the correct RecordPath and port. I put a "sleep" in the Autostart command but it makes no difference. Any ideas?

I added a "cd" to the appropriate directory in the startup command before starting the record engine and this seems to work correctly now.

Step 8 of https://info.hdhomerun.com/info/dvr:linux
You need to pass it path for the config file, otherwise it defaults to look in the path that it runs in.

I see that now. I guess I need to improve my reading skills.
