Still getting things set up and waiting on a drive for DVR functionality, but I’m very impressed so far! Picture is great. Tuner is better than my TV’s apparently. And the apps are working mostly great on Apple tablets and Roku boxes.
Setup has been very straightforward and being able to treat OTA like streaming is extremely convenient.
We hadn’t looked a channel shakeup where I am where we lost local TV over streaming for a channel my wife watches so I looked at what was available for OTA. Long ago I used Hauppauge cards but had no idea what options were out there now and was afraid I was going to have to run coax to the TVs. I was sold when I saw the Roku and tablet apps.
Waiting on a hard drive for DVR use. Need to make a tray to hold the unit for wall mounting and good cooling but that’s easy.
Really well-done tuner/dvr.
HDHomeRun FLEX 4K - Amazing!
Re: HDHomeRun FLEX 4K - Amazing!
Apparently I wasn’t waiting long enough for it to sort itself out after a reboot. It’s even recording now.
It seemed up but apparently wasn’t actually fully recovered from the reboots. Lesson learned.

Well, had my update all written and it disappeared. Maybe better that way…
Still loving the FLEX 4k! Set up the Antennas Direct 2V after a cheap round flat antenna did ok but left us hanging for the channels we really wanted. Where rabbitears says the stations available are half good and half fair at my location, and the flat antenna couldn’t even receive all the channels, the 2V brought all but a few to 100% signal strength/quality and symbol quality across the board. The picture is better than we get with streaming.
Had some show descriptions get scrambled and pointed to the wrong episode video file but just deleted them and the schedule item and rebuilt the rule. So far so good.
All in all very impressed. It works great and I’m definitely a fan!
I started this just looking to compensate for a channel lineup change on a streaming service so my wife could see some shows she thought she was losing. Through it we realized how dependent we were on the internet and streaming services. Having OTA also available with DVR functionality was something I didn’t realize I needed until now.
