Windows app update problems

Post by Wolf1061 »

Pulled out my laptop after a month of sitting idle. Had a few Windows updates and some Windows store updates including an update for the HD Homerun app. Have some connectivity issues, sometimes will not connect
other times it does. Sometimes when it does connect I have a blank screen on the app. When I do get a connection app seems sluggish. Also the cursor fails to autohide in fullscreen. WiFi connectivity is not an issue because everything else works fine. I was sitting like 6ft from the router. Uninstalled the app and reinstalled, same problem. Did advanced settings like reset and repair, no change. The HD Homerun device is working fine because my other devices such as my Android phone and two of my Linux PC's are working fine as expected. HD Homerun is at the newest firmware version 20260326. The Windows app version is 1.1491.0. I had no issues prior to the recent updates.

Thank you
Ken

I was curious if the Windows updates broke anything, especially the June 23, 2026—KB5095093 (OS Builds 26200.8737 and 26100.8737) Preview.
I rolled my laptop back to last update a month ago. I had a saved disc image from a month ago. The old HD Homerun app was 1.1464.0. I proceeded with the Windows updates and no problems. The HD app works fine.
I also had 2 updates through winget, vc runtimes x86 and x64, no problems there. I did NOT update the store apps, If I did it would automatically update all app at once if you click check for updates and that would leave me back where I started. I think I isolated the issue to the new HD app update. Hopefully that will help you out.

The new version of the Windows app has a major change to using a different component for handling the web portion of the app, which is basically everything you see and do except the audio and video. This was done because the old components are obsolete and because the new ones are needed for offline viewing support to work correctly. The cursor not hiding thing seems to be a bug in the interaction between the player and the web components and engineering is investigating that. We are not seeing the issues you describe with the performance in any of our testing. Is there anything running on the PC that might be interfering with the web components, such as third-party firewall, security, antivirus, antimalware, parental control, ad blocking, or other such software?

My windows installation is a fresh install about a month before I created the backup disc image on 06-14-26. I always make a backup copy after a fresh install once I have the basics set up just in case updates or other stuff goes wrong. So no 3rd party addons, debloat software, antimalware etc. The only thing I have is Ublock origin on Firefox and Edge. I will update the store apps if you wish. I will get back to you tomorrow since I am on EDT.

OK, did the store updates this morning. Update seemed OK after installing, cursor issue was still there. The real problems started after restarting the laptop and logging back in. Opening the app I got the usual splash screen, then I got either a blank screen or one with a message then a blank screen for about 20 to 30 seconds before anything loads. once loaded sometimes the controls will freeze for a while before things start working.
You must do a restart of the PC, not a shutdown because if you have fast startup turned on, you are only putting the PC into hibernation which restores the previous state of the PC. Do a restart or a full cold boot and you may see what I am seeing.

Message at the lower left corner of the screen : Version 20260707d Using Async Platform API

No luck reproducing it with multiple reboots on my PC. I have fast startup disabled on everything I use because if I want it to hibernate I'll use the hibernate option .

Are you able to get in and turn on the Send diagnostic information then close and reopen and we can check to see if anything is coming up in the logs? We would just need the device ID for the HDHomeRun to pull them up.

Device ID is : 10B1D5CB.
Don't be surprised I am running multiple clients on my other Linux PCs'. I run #odi with the Zuki HD Homerun addon and NextPVR. I have an Android phone, a Google TV and an Onn Google box.
The only windows device is the Lenovo Thinkpad. This is where I am having issues. I wish I could send you a video of what it's doing, but this forum doesn't do that. Everything else is working with no issues at all.

PS I am surprised your forum doesn't accept the K word
