Here in Spokane, WA we have our fox affiliate on channel 28 and in Coeur d’Alene it’s repeater is on channel 27. Channel 28 has a signal strength (according to my TV) of about 76 and is located at 28 miles from me but plagued by intermittent interference. The CDA repeater on 27 is 8.5 miles from me and signal of 72 but is totally stable. I have tried to adjust my antenna to favor 27 but when I do I loose other channels signal quality.
On my Lg TV I can choose the channels I want and set them in favorites. Is there no way to force the HDHomerun flex 4k to look at and manually set different channels for the same station other than what it thinks is the best channel to set?
Two channels, same station.
Re: Two channels, same station.
When two channels with the same number are encountered in the channel scan, the HDHomeRun will first prefer the one with the greater vertical resolution (1080 > 720 > 480), and if they are the same will keep the one with the higher signal quality. We can check the logs to see what your HDHomeRun is seeing:
- In a web browser go to http://hdhomerun.local
NOTE: That address will go do the first HDHomeRun device found on your network. If you have more than one HDHomeRun device, use the "device ID" printed on the bottom of the unit instead of "hdhomerun" in the address. For example, if your device ID was 104FFFFF then you would go to http://104fffff.local - If it tells you that a firmware update is available, please install it
- Click "System Menu"
- Check the "Send diagnostic information" box (if this box is already checked, please un-check then re-check it)
- Go back one page
- Click "Channel Lineup"
- Click on "Detect Channels"

Re: Two channels, same station.
Its firmware is up to date and the log states 20260617-01:00:00 Tuner: tuner2 tuning 28.1 KAYU-HD (8vsb:557MHz-3) so it is picking up the undesirable one. I need it to pick up 551MHz (channel 27) to get the repeated sig for 28.1. Channel 27 is just a bit weaker than 28.
I can do what you directed tomorrow as soon as I can get the time.

Followed your instructions and re-detected channels with send diagnostic data on.

Re: Two channels, same station.
There's a pretty significant difference in signal quality between the two, with the main transmitter at 92% vs. the repeater at 75%. There isn't currently a way to force the HDHomeRun to use the lower-quality channel. I will bring it up (again) at our next engineering meeting.

I'm a hobbyist, but a couple of thoughts have come to me regarding your situation:
Goal: Omit RF28 signal from the coax going into the HDHomeRun.
Two possible options:
1. (~$200 cost) Add a Televes Smartkom device, so that you can eliminate RF28. Pricey, but possible, as others have expressed positive thoughts on this device, especially if interested in combining two or three antennas.
2. (~<$20, but not 100% ideal) Add a CATV filter to attenuate RF28. Unfortunately, my check on eBay isn't finding an ideal notch filter. RF28 spans 554-560 MHz. Cable channel 79 (also known as QQQ) spans 552-558 MHz. I'm finding no existence of a filter specific to this.
Do you wish to utilize any broadcasts above RF27? If you can get by without them, then there's a possibility that the Channel Vision filter 3102-78 would attenuate RF28 enough that the HDHomeRun would only see RF27 for KAYU. From the Channel Vision instructions: "The 3102-78 filter has a 6-channel slope which means that the first channel that provides clean filtering is channel 84." I'm perceiving that as RF28-RF33 would have their signal diminished some, with RF34 and above entirely wiped out.
3. (~$65) eBay seller jan_jenca would custom-make a UHF one channel-stop filter that would attenuate only RF28. I've not used his products, but my friend on this and other forums MikeBear had good success ordering from jan_jenca.
I've had some luck using CATV filters for my market's ATSC 3.0 situation. In Grand Rapids, MI, two Class As have almost the same 3.0 lineup of virtual channel numbers, with them being broadcast via WXSP on RF15 and WOLP on RF35. I eBayed filters that allow me to eliminate one or the other, before the input to my FLEX 4K. However, I haven't yet gone up on the roof to better point my UHF antenna at either tower, so thus far I'm only rarely seeing the non-DRMed streams.
Good luck! ~~ Statmanmi
