migrate DVR to a new computer

Post by SpencerC »

Hello!

I'd like to retire my old desktop and migrate to a new machine. I have a HDHomeRun Prime with cable card with the DVR service. Please evaluate my strategy and offer suggestions or any other helpful tips.

1. Install the HDHomeRun app on the new computer including the HDHomeRun Install Wizard (done)
2. Copy any recordings from old computer to new computer. I plan on using an external USB connected hard drive on the new computer.
3. Disable the DVR on the old computer and enable it on the new computer.

From my understanding, this should be all that needs to be done, but I could be completely wrong. Is there any licensing that needs to be transferred from the old computer to the new one? Is there any issue using a USB drive for the DVR recordings? Is there a way to transfer my existing tasks list and also include the recording history so it doesn't re-record anything it already had recorded?

Thank you!

You got it right, that's basically all you need to do. The tasks are stored in our servers and associated with your account, which is associated with the HDHomeRun's device ID. As long as that unit is on the local network then it will download the correct tasks. USB drive should be fine.

Thank you!!! I love easy-peasy migrations. At least this is easy for me.
