Chairman Carr has already made his feelings pretty clear on a private company usurping the FCC's authority. I don't think there's ever going back to square one at this point.

Is there a point where the FCC will actually make a "ruling" on this or are these filings going to go on for another few years?

Yes, a ruling will eventually happen. It's like building a freeway, there's a lot of public involvement that has to happen before the shovels hit the dirt. At least there's no environmental impact statement needed for this.

Might be an odd question, but in all this time waiting, why not redesign a new 4 ATSC 3 tuner HDHR that connects HDMI like the Z box?

Then later on worry about apps same as them, so at least you can get in the game as I can not see DRM going away as so many stations and other things spent so much to do it.

Are there any markets that could utilize it? Not mine, and our lighthouse is across two RFs.

Even new set-top-boxes with HDMI connections are facing significant hurdles in getting everything they need to bring the product to market. Existing hardware is grandfathered in, but any new entries are kinda screwed.

Existing set-top-boxes (HDMI) are also having significant issues.

A3SA is stringing along companies and customers alike. The FCC must step in.

Any place I could read about those? I haven't heard much in my usual forums.

The examples for existing boxes having issues can be found in Lon and Antennaman's YouTube videos and their own FCC filings and the presentation they made when they went to DC. IIRC, they even found DRM bugs/issues with ATSC 3.0 TV sets that are already being sold.

Some quick examples:

For the hurdles for new hardware, that you will have to ask A3SA. The details of those hurdles hide behind NDAs to prevent public scrutiny, which is another issue we've brought up in our FCC filings.

Right, I mostly meant about new entries. Too bad, thanks for the info.
