SiliconDust - ATSC 3.0

Post by vince94 »

Greetings Nickk
I've have not used my HD HomeRun Quad tuner ever sense the stupid encrypt stations started. I really enjoyed using HD HomeRun with the Channels app. Nickk, realistically is their any chance SiliconDust will have a product anytime soon?

People have been asking this question for years, and the answer has always been "NO". It all revoves around the ability of SD's devices' users to be able to watch TV on TV sets, computers, tablets, phones, and whatever devices within their own homes, an ability that has been available since broadcast TV began ages ago, but the TV stations no longer want to allow. TV station ownership groups want to be paid for each and every device that is allowed to display a signal, something totally new and totally different from the "free over the air" system the US has had since the beginning of broadcasting. I applaud SD for taking this stand, but years have passed since they took this stand, and it will probably be many more before, and if, anything changes.

I as well no longer use my HD HomeRun tuner for anything. There is only one unenctypted TV station in the Oklahoma City market, the Fox station, and for that matter, none of the TV station signals are receivable at my location any more with any sort of reliability. They used to be, but no longer are, and this has left a huge portion of the state of Oklahoma with no off-air TV signals at all any more, of any kind, enctypted or unencrypted, even the ATSC1 signals are no longer receivable across a huge section of the state as coverage areas were shrunk by half in the digital transition.

So we are required to subscribe to some sort of subscription service to receive a signal, whether that be a satellite or streaming service. So the broadcasters get paid, just like they wanted all along. Cut the service area so that viewers MUST pay a fee to watch their signals. And in a state such as Oklahoma with our wild weather swings and constant tornado risk, having access to the weather reports is an absolute must. I don't see this current situation changing, ever.
