If this topic has been discussed before, my apologies in being repetitious.
Is it possible (the capability exists) for the HDHomeRun app to fire off a WOL magic packet when the app initiates (to wake up a PC-based DVR storage server)? If so, would SD entertain the addition of such a capability in the future?
Thanks!

Re: Wake On Lan
I strongly doubt such as the dvr does everything in its power to not let such sleep, it won't even allow drives to spin down as it takes too long for them to spin up. If the pc is sleeping it can't get discovered by the app so won't even know where to direct such request.
My suggestion would be to use another solution for dvr (NAS, drive attached to flex, ...)

Two issues that come to mind...
1) Many platforms we support won't allow an app to send a WoL packet. It does look as if Windows might allow it.
2) The wakeup time is usually pretty bad, especially for large spindle hard drives. We experimented early on but it was taking a WDC NAS about 14 seconds to respond which made for a terrible user experience.

To signcarver: Currently, I am using nextpvr as the backend, with **** as a client - it works fine, but takes a bit of maintenance and and extra HW. After testing the newer HDHomerun app recently, I like the simplicity of it (wife proof!) and can re-use some of my current HW without additional purchases. For me the HDHomerun app would be perfect if it had the WOL capability. I could kluge around the absence of the WOL feature, but then it adds complexity.
To Nickk: I am currently running a windows 10 server and program thewindows power settings such that it stays awake while recording or serving media, but will sleep in between. I am using the wol features of nextpvr and **** without issue - just trying to stay green. If the WOL feature were available, its functionality could be toggled on/off depending on each users need/setup. Just a suggestion.
Thanks for your responses!

Thank you so much for your help. QNAP gave the instructions to increase my hard drive. It should work now. I will know tonight when my shows record. It's kind of funny that it was a QNAP issue. They've told me multiple time they do not support HDHomeRun yet the issue was their NAS.
