On my phone I was very surprised by the prominent location of the record dot (don't use phone for such often as tv belongs on much bigger screens). When I go to my google streamer (and other android tv devices) it is a bit further to the right as jumping back, pause, and skip are earlier while on the phone those are larger in the middle of the screen including vertically (used to be much further right on that bottom bar). But I am subscribed so it may be that it is showing the dot for that reason (I know long ago they didn't show when not subscribed).

There will be a UI update out shortly (today).

Thanks. That explains it. I’ll be looking for that then.

The capability seems to be working great for me.

Other than fast forwarding, is there a nicer way to skip over commercials?

UI is out for early access customers...

In the HDHomeRun app go into Settings and enable "early access to new features".

Early access was already on for me. But today I see the record circle on my Google 4K Streamer. Thanks for this upgrade. How unexpected. Now I need to think about what I actually want to record.

While watching live, I started a recording and it worked. It’s visually unintuitive to know how to stop that recording. I assume it would automatically stop at the end of the program. I’d expect the circle to become a square on the live view of a channel I’m recording in this way. But it remains a circle. Selecting that circle presented me with a delete option, I believe and that’s what I did. But what if I wanted to stop it and keep the snippet?

Nick
Thanks for this new feature. I'm testing it on a Flex 4K and it works very well so far. I've primarily used Plex for my DVR needs to this point (and NextPVR, to an extent), but being able to test the HDHomeRun DVR in this fashion is making me consider changing to it. Thanks!

I’ve noticed that if I skip a decent amount into a recording and then try to play from there, it’ll play the audio with no video for a few seconds and then crashes. If I back out before it crashes, I can get in the recording immediately and watch from that point just fine. Is this a known issue? I have Google 4K streamer.

I don’t have the HDHR subscription plan. I do have the recording capability setup and it works. I use it occasionally.

I clicked the series for FIFA Wold Cup to record and clicked Auto Record. It popped something up telling me “Get 14 days of Guide and Auto Record with HDHR DVR Guide ($35 / year)”. And only an Continue button, so I press that. And up pops the box that looks like it’s goi g to allow me to record All Seasons, Teams, Channels, and a little early or longer than advertised in the guide. I hit Save. I go over to tasks and see there’s nothing under Upcoming but there is something under manage. It says “FIFA World Cup 2026” and All Episodes with a trashcan next to it.

It doesn’t ultimately record. This makes sense because I don’t have the guide plan and I don’t see the orange circle.

Is the idea that I can use explore the capability without it working? Otherwise It makes me feel like that recording task is going to happen.

Hitting the trashcan and delete deletes it from tasks. So I switch to up upcoming nothing listed there, and switch back to Manage. It’s back. We t to guide and came back and it’s gone. However there’s still the FiFA World Cup and series description to the left under tasks even though none are listed as coming up nor managed. I go out of tasks and back in again and now that has cleared up.

So something is inconsistent in the UI. This is on iOS.

So where did I go wrong? (Other than not buying the subscription ;-) )
Was it clicking on the series and trying to record? Was it clicking Auto instead of picking a channel? Perhaps what I did should warn me that only that game will be recorded and create a task that works as opposed one that doesn’t?

Walking through the process, if I select a particular channel instead of Auto, what I expected happens. A task for that specific event is created. And I see the orange dot. Deleting the task still has the same UI issue.

Ah, we'll probably need to think about how to handle that.

In theory we don't want to hide automatic tasks, because sometimes a normal subscription failed to renew (expired card, minor banking error, whatever), and the customer is going to eventually notice and fix it (we now send a reminder e-mail three days before renewal, and then an e-mail saying if the card payment failed). Maybe we have one of those notification triangles with an ! in it next to it, to indicate that the task still exists, but will fail due to the subscription status/tier.
