Apple TV: Can't use Airplay speakers

With other streaming apps on my Apple TV, if I select an Airplay speaker for my audio output everything works (and syncs) no problem. However, using the HDHomerun app no audio is routed or possibly even stays with HDMI. Is this a bug or is it a spec limitation?

We've been meaning to dive into this deeper. I will test a bunch of AirPlay speaker situations and link up with the dev team and see what we can find out.
