As someone who is still fairly new to the HDHomerun device, app and DVR service, does this mean the yearly subscription is just for the extended guide now? Or is there some other enhanced functionality?

Most people who want to record something will require the guide to make a series/scheduled recording not one particular recording of one particular episode that is airing in the next several hours and then require one to set such again for the next day.
Re: BIG NEWS - "Record This Airing" now works for everyone
You can set specific shows/movies at a specific time to record for free. "Auto-record"/series tasks, such as "record all new episodes of Bob's Burgers" will require a subscription. I believe the XMLTV guide will also require a subscription for people who want to use our guide data with a third party app.warhaver wrote: Wed Feb 11, 2026 2:31 pm As someone who is still fairly new to the HDHomerun device, app and DVR service, does this mean the yearly subscription is just for the extended guide now? And of course you do still need to have an HDHomeRun DVR running somewhere, either on a FLEX device with an attached hard drive, a computer, or a NAS box, in order to utilize this. Just a new feature for those who want to test out the DVR before buying or who are mostly live TV viewers but occasionally need to record the game because real life got in the way of watching sports.

Thanks, This is a nice feature to preview your DVR recording capability.jasonl wrote: Wed Feb 11, 2026 6:23 pm live TV viewers but occasionally need to record the game because real life got in the way of watching sports.
I have a couple questions.
I start watching a channel Live some minutes before a game starts airing and am now 15 minutes into the game airing, watching the Live game and I choose "Record this airing" and walk away.
1) Does it record the game airing from the beginning (start of the game airing which I've been watching Live), or just from when I choose to record "This airing" at 15 minutes in?
2) If it doesn't record from the start of the game airing, will getting a subscription allow me to do this, or will I have to schedule the recording, which I didn't think I had to do?

I have a Flex 4K and an Asustor NAs setup. How would I tell the Flex 4K to record to the NAS?

The current behavior is that it will start recording from when you command it to record, with or without subscription.Billi23 wrote: Thu Feb 12, 2026 12:44 am I start watching a channel Live some minutes before a game starts airing and am now 15 minutes into the game airing, watching the Live game and I choose "Record this airing" and walk away.

Thanks. That was pretty easy as long as I ignore the requirements for a DVR subscription. We'll see if it records the Olympics while we’re watching something else.NedS wrote: Thu Feb 12, 2026 5:26 amJust follow these instructions: https://info.hdhomerun.com/info/dvr:nas:asustordanieljlevine wrote: Thu Feb 12, 2026 12:50 am I have a Flex 4K and an Asustor NAs setup. Can I watch a recording of a program in progress that’s being recorded? I assume yes.

Actually, how do I record a program starting now? I see how to record the next program, but not starting now.

Re: BIG NEWS - "Record This Airing" now works for everyone
Do I need to do more than install the DVR software apk on my NAS and then schedule a recording? Or is there another missing step if I don’t have a subscription?

That is pretty much it.danieljlevine wrote: Thu Feb 12, 2026 5:23 pm Do I need to do more than install the DVR software apk on my NAS and then schedule a recording? Or is there another missing step if I don’t have a subscription?
In the HDHomeRun app go into Settings, Devices and make sure the NAS is detected.

Thanks! That was easy! I recorded my non-DRM Fox station with faux ATMOS and when I played it back, my audio system went into ATMOS mode. Now I think you are doing things I couldn’t do before with 3rd party players.
So, while watching live, how do I start recording the show already in progress? Or is that not possible?
