Help me understand.. ???

Post by clarkss12 »

My local (Detroit) NBC station is one of the few NON DRM encrypted channels, so it play the ATSC 3 channels. Have not used that ATSC 3 channel in a long time. Anyway, thought I would test it today, and don't understand the results..........

The Olympics play extremely well using the ATSC1 stream, and the streams are around 10Mbps with all three signals at 100%.

I switch over to the ATSC3 stream and it is has a lot of pixelation. The streams are about 3.5Mbps.... According to VLC, the stream is 1920x1080 frame rate 59.940060

Is my issue the signal that is coming over the air??

Will I gain anything from watching the Superbowl with the ATSC3 channel if it is working OK???

Edit: All three streams on the 104 channel are also 100%

Edit 2: Forgot to mention the ATSC3 stream is MPEG-H Part2/HEVC (H265) (hevc)

I can take a look at what is happening... can you please enable "send diagnostic information" in the HDHomeRun app, watch the ATSC 3.0 channel for 5+ minutes, then post back with the device ID of your HDHomeRun.

I must have tried the ATSC3 at the same time they were doing something. Later that day, everything played perfectly. I am using my Dune Homatics media player that supports Dolby AC-4. The ATSC1 station uses 1080i and while playing fast moving sports, I see a lot of missed frames (I think that is the issue). Anyway, the ATSC3 station uses 1080P with 60fps, so maybe that will help with the fast moving video.....

For the first time in months, I, too, am now receiving a strong, stable signal from WDIV (104.1).

Lucky for you, your local NBC is non-DRM. Both my NBC stations(Baltimore & Washington DC) are DRM so no joy
I thought I'd check out the few FIOS 4K channels on my HDHomeRun Prime cable card turner and they are broadcasting the pre-game and super bowl in 4K HDR Atmos :D
They rarely have anything on these 4K channels so I was surprised to see it being turned on for Super Bowl Sunday, the picture is phenomenal.
