Fast Forwarding Issue - lenlab
Fast Forwarding Issue - lenlab
I may be doing it wrong so forgive me and set me straight.
I have had many bad experiences trying to FF (fast forward) and skip by commercials. It does not matter where in the HD app I do it but sometimes it will kick me out of the recording I am viewing. Sometimes after I get back in it will kick me out right away when I try to FF through a commercial.
I'm not sure if it is because I don't wait until the FF completes or there is another issue going on.
There seems to be 2 ways to FF for 30 seconds. One is when I am watching a recording and simply press the right toggle on my FireTV 4k remote.
The second if to press the big middle play button and get the menu at the bottom of the screen and there is an icon for 30 second FF or 10 second back.
Does not matter which option I use I will sometimes get kicked out of the recording trying to FF.
This should not be happening. Anyone else experience this?

Re: Fast Forwarding Issue
I've had that happen when the bandwidth drops too low and the app thinks the stream has ended. Do you have wifi in the mix?
I've also seen it with a poor combination of gigabit ethernet + USB 2.0 on the player device, but that's probably more rare.

Re: Fast Forwarding Issue
No WIFI. Ethernet to router. I have other DVR brands that are connected via WIFI and no issues with 30 second FF.
Re: Fast Forwarding Issue
I have a Fire Cube 3 and a Fire Stick 4k Max and have not seen this happen.
Re: Fast Forwarding Issue
Yes I am using a FireTV 4k Max second gen and having this issue.
Re: Fast Forwarding Issue
We would like to get some diagnostic data to see what is happening:
- In a web browser go to http://hdhomerun.local
NOTE: That address will go do the first HDHomeRun device found on your network. If you have more than one HDHomeRun device, use the "device ID" printed on the bottom of the unit instead of "hdhomerun" in the address. For example, if your device ID was 104FFFFF then you would go to http://104fffff.local - If it tells you that a firmware update is available, please install it
- Click "System Menu"
- Check the "Send diagnostic information" box (if this box is already checked, please un-check then re-check it)
- Open the HDHomeRun app on the FireTV
- Go into the app settings: the gear icon in the top right corner of the "Live/Recorded/Discover/Tasks" page
- Enable the option to "Send diagnostic information"
- Reproduce the issue, and note the exact time it happens, down to the second if possible (use the clock on your phone so that it will be properly synced and we can find the right point in the logs)
Re: Fast Forwarding Issue
Thanks! I will do this or try to follow this later today. I will let you know when it is done.
Also note it happened last night as I was going back 10 seconds too!

Re: Fast Forwarding Issue
It happened tonight while I was watching a recording of CBS Sunday morning.
The time as best I could get when it happened: 5:59 PM and 40 seconds. And when I tried to spin up to where the problem happened it kicked me out.
Device ID: 10ABA79B
I'm trying to get back into the recording after I send this.
Device ID corrected
Also after I sent this post I was able to FF to where I was kicked out and continued with the recording to the end with no issues and even was able to skip commercials a few times without getting kicked out.

Re: Fast Forwarding Issue
That device ID appears to have a typo in it. Can you please confirm?

Re: Fast Forwarding Issue
This is exactly the same problem i reports some months ago (in recordings and live tv) Hopefully you'll be able to get somewhere with it as you aren't able to repro it then.
Mine also does it when rewinding. Same scenario- click s second time quickly and you're out of the recording .
I all cases for some reason the progress bar on the recording shows that it's been fully watched instead of only showing the progress to where it threw me out of the recording.
For live tv, in all cases where this happens out status in live tv, and jumps to the current moment and dumps the entire buffer (you can't rewind until it rebuilds the buffer)
I'll turn on the send diagnostics as well.
This is on a Firestick Max that is on wifi, and two primes that are hardwired and are on cat5e wire (they were moved to a different position on different wire while trying to troubleshoot this). The wifi router has also been replaced and relocated since the initial report (its currently 20 ft away from the firestick and the firestick reports strong wifi signal.

Re: Fast Forwarding Issue
Yup goes back to the beginning on mine too.
Re: Fast Forwarding Issue
lenlab, it looks like you have an older app version installed. Please update to the latest version and check to see if the issue still occurs, and if so, provide the new time.
Re: Fast Forwarding Issue
Okay I will work on updating the app...which I assume you mean the Silicon Dust app and not the FireTV stick app.
I just checked and supposedly all my apps are up to date.
The HD Homerun reports my app is 20250708
If this is not correct what should it be? And if there is a newer one, how do I load it?

Re: Fast Forwarding Issue
I can get the same 'proper' behavior by hitting the ff or rew multiple times like you do, but only if the repeated keystrokes are close enough together. As in bang, bang. If I do it bang,... bang (even just a fraction of a second apart) it will revert to the improper behavior.
For me the length of the recording does not seem to have an effect

Re: Fast Forwarding Issue
Hopefully this gets some attention and gets fixed.
I have tried to supply the info needed to help figure out the issue.
