Las Vegas - Open Sinclair Stations No Longer Tuning

Post by kingcoldcuts »

This might be broadcast transmission related, but just in case...

The open broadcasts from Sinclair - 103.1 NBC and 133.1 CW. - indicate No Videa Data when trying to tune.

Here is a video of Config GUI when trying to tune the channel:

Screencap 9-5-25

Does this look like a broadcast configuration issue from Sinclair? I have enabled diagnostic data for 10A64085, as well.

Thanks!

Unfortunately that is not my experience. Once the No Video Data error comes up, that's all she wrote. Hopefully, whatever it is gets fixed soon. I'd like to watch SNF with the Atmos track KSNV sends out.

Still not sure what is going on, but this morning I'm able to successfully tune in 103.1 using a Gen 1 Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K. THe only other device I tried to use is a 2020 Google TV TCL TV, but there's some weird stuff going on with it. I think that is related more to the TV, as TCL hasn't provided an update in years.

Anyway - hopefully the station fixed whatever the problem was before.

I have a theory that the data payload tied to Sinclair channels confuses HDHR tuners. I see the same behavior with my Sinclair ATSC 3.0 transmitters. I can always tune the local low-power station, and can usually tune the competitor's station that we host on one of our ATSC 3.0 signals, but our own ATSC 3.0 subchannels pretty much don't work on the HDHR.

Lets get a capture...

http://<device id>.local:5004/auto/v<virtual channel number>?format=dbg&duration=120

Replace <device id> with the Device ID of your HDHomeRun.
Replace <virtual channel number> with the 100+ virtual channel number, for example 103.1
Then drop the URL into a web browser (or use wget/curl)... it will take 2 minutes to capture/download.

@nickk I have the capture. What's the best way to deliver it to you?

By the way, I find I have better success tuning my ATSC 3.0 subchannels if I select a channel from the guide right after opening the viewer. That works a lot of the time. If I jump from channel to channel, it is a toss-up. Sometimes it locks to the channel, but frequently I get "Unable to play channel: No video data"
