New features / functionality

Post by djhodny »

I've come to HdHomeRun from a couple of different ***** devices that have "died". Overall I'm satisfied with the functionality of HDHomeRun but I experience a few functionality deficiencies which if corrected would greatly improve the device. I have two different Roku devices (Premier & Streambar) to access the HDHomeRun device.

1) If a recording starts while I am using the HDHomeRun device I don't see the recording. I need to get out and back in, then I see the recording. Same thing when deleting a recording. It would be nice if it would update "dymanically" and not have to exit and get back in.
2) In order to pause a channel I'm watching I need to hit the OK buttion (seeing the channel list) then the Back button. Why have to hit the OK, Back buttons in order to pause the channel? Pause should function when just hitting the Play / Pause button.
3) I have the Flex 4 tuner. On ***** I could have two different channels active and switch back and forth between, then and back up or replay to catch up on what I missed. I can switch back and forth on the HDHomeRun too but it does not "remember" where I left off. It would be nice if it kept a tuner active on the original channel and use a different tuner when going to a different channel.

If we could make these three improvements it would improve the device's usability notably.

What platform are you running the HDHomeRun app on?

Any navigation including simply pressing OK on the Recorded top menu item should refresh the page.
I will bring auto-refresh up internally, just looking to make sure refresh is working for you (don't exit the app).

You can pause by pressing the Play/Pause button, or by pressing OK twice.
Pressing OK then back should not pause the channel.
I will test here once I know what platform you are running the HDHomeRun app on.

The app must release the tuner so other player devices on the network can use the tuner.
The record engine used to buffer live TV (when present) also has to release the tuner as there can be more than one record engine on the network. This is a key feature - you can add more recording space by adding another record engine.

NickK: "What platform are you running the HDHomeRun app on?"
I have the HDHomeRun Flex 4 unit; accessing it from a Rocu Premier and a Roku Streambar.

NickK: "Any navigation including simply pressing OK on the Recorded top menu item should refresh the page". It does not. For series recordings, after deleting the one existing recording and getting back out to the Recorded list it's still listed. If I hit OK it (correctly) shows only future recordings. Then I exit the app and go back in, that recorded episode no longer shows in the Recorded List. Same issue when I'm in the app while a recording begins. It's not listed and no refresh attempt works. Only getting out and back in works. On a related problem, recording a single episode does not work for me. I can set it and then see it in the Tasks, but it never gets recorded. I have gotten around the problem be doing Series Recordings.

NickK: You can pause by pressing the Play/Pause button, or by pressing OK twice. Pressing OK then back should not pause the channel. I slightly miss-spoke. After hitting OK then Back I'm then in a "mode" where Play / Pause and Replay work. But hitting Play/Pause before OK and Back does nothing. Also OK twice does not pause.

NickK: The app must release the tuner so other player devices on the network can use the tuner. Why couldn't some "conflict resolution" algorithm be implemented or at least the tuner released only when it is needed by another device?

NickK: you can add more recording space by adding another record engine. Another record engine - sorry, what does that mean? How do I do that?
