HDHomeRun DUAL (HDHR-EU) - Channels Detected but Playback Fails in Plex

Post by jamiep »

Hi everyone,

I recently received an older HDHomeRun DUAL (HDHR-EU) from a friend, and I’m trying to get it working properly.

Location: Australia
Network: UniFi (wired connection)

Setup details
- Installed the HDHomeRun Setup utility on my Windows 11 PC — it successfully detects both device inputs.
- Only one input is connected to a digital antenna, and the status shows OK.
- A channel scan finds most channels, including Guide Number and Guide Name.
- When I click channel links in the Channel Editor, they open in VLC and stream live TV perfectly.

Issue 1 – Windows App
- The HDHomeRun Windows app just says “Loading” under the Guide tab, and nothing appears under the Live tab.
- In Settings → Devices, it lists the Device ID but shows no channels.

Issue 2 – Web Interface
- When I access the device via its IP address, it shows the Mode, Device ID, and Firmware version (20230505).
- However, it only offers links to “Download drivers” and “Installation instructions” — no Channel Lineup page appears.

Issue 3 – Plex Integration
- I successfully added the tuner to Plex.
- Under Live TV & DVR, it shows:
- Channel Source: Freeview (59 Channels)
- Tuner Status: 2 green dots
- IP Address and model detected correctly
- The full Australian TV guide appears, and all channels are listed.
- However, when I try to play any channel, Plex buffers for a few seconds and then shows:
- “Playback Error – Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna.”

Any advice on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Which tuner is connected? Everything expects tuner 0 to be the primary one, so make sure it is that one if you're only connecting one for some reason.

I've only connected Digital Antenna to "Device ID*-0", the other one (Device ID*-1) I have Disabled.

*I'm not sure if it's ok to include my actual Device ID to this forum.

There was a Plex server update last week that broke the integration with HD Homerun tuners. I'm having the same problem as you. There was mention of it on Reddit last week. Maybe someone here from SD has a contact at Plex and can formally report this bug.

Not sure if it's the same problem, as I can't get Live TV from HDHomerun Windows program or iPhone/Ipad/Apple TV standalone apps.
