Re: HDHomeRun app crashing onn streaming device
We have no app logs at that time, only briefly from a Pixel phone about 25 minutes earlier.

Sorry - I didn't realize the setting was per viewing device and used the pixel to turn it. I enabled it on the TV and just had a crash at 10:27pm Eastern.

Additional crashes at 17:13 and 17:48 Eastern if they made it into the logs.

Thought I would jump in to say both of my onn devices (the $20 original 4k box and the $50 4k Pro) are using the same versions you mentioned, which is Android 14, and they both work fine. Unfortunately the app on the new TCL TV does not as mentioned in this thread: viewtopic.php?t=80044roba wrote: Thu Sep 18, 2025 4:41 pm Additional crashes at 17:13 and 17:48 Eastern if they made it into the logs.
I have mostly been focused (nickk has assisted too) on why the local non-DRM ATSC3 station that broadcasts in HDR10 would freeze that I never got around to trying to play some recorded shows until today and the app fails miserably for that too. If you hit pause, rewind, or ff, the app (on the TV) instantly locks up. And changing channels is useless when that happens. The only way out is to do a Force Stop on the app. I have uninstalled/reinstalled and now permanently uninstalled it on the TV and am forced to use the onn devices. I know this is really no help as to why your onn app crashes but thought it was kinda similar to the one on my Google TV.
Re: HDHomeRun app crashing onn streaming device
Thanks AlbumMan! It's comforting that I'm not the only with various issues. I'm hoping the silence from the support folks on my diagnostic logs means they've found something interesting and are sorting through it. In the meantime I have to keep my wife's pleas to "just go back to Comcast" at bay

Re: HDHomeRun app crashing onn streaming device
Nothing in the logs, which isn't really surprising since a reboot of the device tends to suggest a hardware or firmware issue and would not be captured by app logs. Is the box adequately ventilated? Heat can sometimes be an issue on some streaming devices.

Thanks for the reply Jason. I did try a couple different power supplies and made sure it wasn't overheating. As a last ditch try I returned the box to the store and got another one of the same device. That one has been working fine so far. I guess quality control on these things is not great. Maybe a missing heatsink inside or something? I don't know why the HD app would be the only one to crash it, but maybe it's a little more resource intensive than others. I appreciate you taking the time to check the logs.

Which Onn device was this, specifically? There are several now:
Onn 4k Pro Streaming Device
Onn 4k Plus Streaming Device (new)
Onn 4k Streaming Device
Onn Full HD Streaming Device
The new $30 Plus model's specs include Atmos, HDR10+, Dolby Vision. Much like the Pro but is wifi only and less memory/storage.

Re: HDHomeRun app crashing onn streaming device
A one-off faulty ONN box makes sense... the ONN models are used extensively with the HDHomeRun and work well.roba wrote: Sat Sep 27, 2025 4:32 am As a last ditch try I returned the box to the store and got another one of the same device. That one has been working fine so far.
