Is my Prime 3 dead?

Post by Bibbit »

I noticed the lights on my HD HomeRun Prime 3 were not normal. The power light was not green, it was red, and the rightmost tuner light was green. No other light was on. I unplugged the unit and let it sit for a while. Now, when I plug it back in nothing happens. Is there something I can try to get it to work, or is it likely, if not definitely, dead? Thanks

Could be a bad power adapter, SiliconDust sells replacements.

It is indeed the power adapter, thanks for the advice. I've never had a plug die on my before, so I didn't consider it. Ordered a replacement, hopefully it won't take too long to arrive.

I'm curious how you were able to prove it was the power adapter before you even ordered a replacement...

Most of the consumer priced power supplies[0] have a lifetime that is less than five years (because that is what most CPE is expected to last, even though some suggest "lifetime"). The SD devices are themselves well designed, and almost certainly exceed the average CPE power supply lifetime (and, I fully understand, this is about money).

[0] FD: I use only Delta (or TDK-Lambda) branded power supplies/adapters for my SD replacement supplies, for they are likely to survive more years than I will be alive. I used to be able to be able to walk to a new old stock surplus store where I could acquire them for pennies on the dollar (and I still have a "stash").

Does anyone serious not have a good lab bench power supply (yes, I do know that I am likely not the typical consumer).
