Maximum Operating Temperature?

Post by GreenTV »

I'm a newbie here, just having installed my first HDHomeRun 4K Flex. I have it installed in the attic of my home, close to my TV antenna. (I find that the signal reception is best that way compared to having the HDHomeRun elsewhere in the home at the end of a long coaxial cable.) Considering the heat wave expected in much of the US this week, the attic is likely to get well over 100 degrees F. I'd like to know if Silicon Dust has a spec for the maximum ambient operating temperature of the HDHomeRun device.

Can I store my HDHomeRun in an attic that gets very hot/cold? What is the acceptable operating temperature?

HDHomeRun operating temperature is 0-40 °C (32-104 °F) ambient. You should attempt to avoid operating it in places that exceed this temperature.

Thanks. (That didn't show up when I did a search for temperature specifications of the device.)

Sounds like you need an amplifier.
However, if you put the amp in the attic it would need to be rated for the temperature.
Is the antenna in the attic or outside?
If you have a splitter, is it in the attic?

SiliconDust says not to use an antenna amplifier, as one is built into the HDHomeRun. It turns out that what I needed was a new antenna in the attic. (Old one was a Terk.) I picked up an Antennas Direct ClearStream 2V, and now I get 100% signal strength and signal quality on nearly all the local channels, even after I moved the HDHomeRun out of the attic, which added about another 50 feet of coax cable. (The line from the antenna to the HDHomeRun has no splitters.)
