Android / Fire TV app release

Post by nickk »

[Edited 20250611]
HDHomeRun app release 20250611 for Android / Fire TV has been submitted to Amazon and Google for approval. The update fixes various crash issues where the app might exit or might show an exception. The app release should be available as an update shortly.

We have confirmed an issue where that app will appear to fail to start showing a black screen on some devices.
Workaround - the app will start normally after sitting at the black screen for approximately 90 seconds. No action is required other than waiting for 90 seconds.

We are investigating.

Both 607 and 606 cause reoccurring lockups on three different firesticks on entry. Keeps happening everywhere. Have to clear data to get back in.

I have spent the day testing and have not been able to reproduce here. Testing mostly with a Fire TV Stick 4K (gen1) and a Fire TV Stick 4K Max.

Any thoughts as to what might trigger the error/crash?

Same as I have. Usually happens when first going into app. Then going to live. Either blank black screen or Java error screen (black) with a list of values.
Thanks!

The fact that it happens when you first startup the app makes me think it has something to do with the startup splash screen. But I think it happens when you hit the live button.

Do you have the app set to start in Live TV?

On two yes, one no. But, I've taken them all off live start now. Also, they are all on grid mode.

I reproduced a "Java exception" with the app set to start in Live TV mode.

Can you please try the new beta release 20250609:
https://download.silicondust.com/hdhome ... d_beta.apk

If you are seeing a Java exception with the app not set to start in Live TV mode there may be something else going on beyond the issue this beta release fixes.

You weure right. I installed 609 app and no Java error screen. But, the plain black screen came up when hitting live after just starting the app.

It did work okay for a while last night, then when I turned it on this afternoon it happened...
Black screen. Cleared data and working for now.

Thanks.

Since the last release, I have not been able to play or watch ATSC 3.0 programs. I have a 2019 Nvidia Shield. Everything works fine on the XBox.

The version in the Google Play Store has a bug where it will not play ATSC 3.0 channels on devices that don't have an AC-4 decoder. It is fixed in the above version, but we're having some issues getting it approved in the Play Store and that may not be able to be resolved until next week. You can sideload the linked version above and it will work.

I'm getting a signature mismatch error when I try to sideload it, that might be why the Play Store isn't approving the update
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE: Package com.silicondust.view signatures do not match previously installed version; ignoring!

I have 20250611 on my FireTV Stick 4K Max 2nd Gen. I do have the DVR subscription.am

It either fails to load altogether and just leaves a black screen, loads only after passage of much time (minutes) or just crashes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice. No difference. Just finished a reinstall at 10:15am EST today.

Is there another fix coming? Thanks so much. [email removed by moderator]

We have confirmed this issue on some devices. If you wait long enough at the black screen the app will eventually start. We are investigating.
