guide missing most channels

Post by SpencerC »

Starting yesterday my grid guide and slice guide are missing a majority of my channels. I'm running Win10 with a HDHomeRun Prime cable card tuner. I've rebooted, power cycled the tuner, turned off early access to new features and still no help. I cannot tune into those missing channels using the SD app. I can tune in the missing channels using VLC or Plex Media Server. This tells me the tuner is seeing all the channels. I also think the DVR is working on those missing channels, but won't know for sure until Monday. My device ID is 1323BE9B. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I would run a scan and make sure it picks up those channels... the other apps you listed can just request any channel (doesn't need to show up from scan) with any virtual channel number and if the card (or ta) has such number it will tune.

App can have other issues when there isn't guide data for the channel. Lately I have been seeing many have issue with guide for cable channels.

Also note that for SD to have guide data, both virtual number and channel name must be present... usually not an issue for cablecard as much as for clear qam but more and more providers are neglecting cablecard.

Scans were never meant to be run on cablecard devices... the way it was designed was one was to get a guide by zipcode (or from provider) and any tuning simply requests the channel. Unfortunately SD didn't take my advice long ago and "ban the scan" (which back then was often needed for those with TA's) and their system requires such scan.

Re-running the channel scan fixed the issue. Thanks for the prompt response. Also, apparently, I have a lot more channels than I can remember. I'm curious as to what may have caused this? I know Xfinity was doing work in our area before this problem started. I wonder if part of that work included a bunch of new channels?

HDHomeRun devices run a channel scan every ~3 days. With a CableCARD, if a channel isn't tunable, it will not be in the resulting channel lineup (vs. an OTA device, which will not remove inaccessible channels). If the scan happens to be run during maintenance or an outage, some or all channels may end up missing.
