Flex 4K keeps crashing

Post by dabarany »

Purchased a HDHomerun Flex 4K from Amazon. I set up an antenna and amplifier and am delivering a signal to the Flex 4K measuring -7 to +12dBmV measured with a spectrum analyzer. (I'm a RF electronics engineer).
I've put a low-pass LTE filter. I've used the HDHomerun.local and have typically 100% across all three parameters. However, I keep on getting freeze frames and eventually the "Connection Lost" black screen. My next step is to add in a high pass filter to block the FM frequencies as maybe they're overloading the tuner? Regardless, I really want this to work. Anybody have any thoughts as to what is going on?

Have you tried bypassing the amplifier and seeing if it is more stable then? It is possible to overwhelm the HDHomeRun's own internal amplifier.

We would like to get some diagnostic data to see what is happening:
  1. In a web browser go to http://hdhomerun.local
NOTE: That address will go do the first HDHomeRun device found on your network. If you have more than one HDHomeRun device, use the "device ID" printed on the bottom of the unit instead of "hdhomerun" in the address. For example, if your device ID was 104FFFFF then you would go to http://104fffff.local
  2. Click "System Menu"
  3. Check the "Send diagnostic information" box (if this box is already checked, please un-check then re-check it)
  4. Go back one page
  5. Click "Channel Lineup"
  6. Click on "Detect Channels"
  7. After the scan finishes, open the HDHomeRun app
  8. Go into the app settings: the gear icon in the top right corner of the "Live/Recorded/Discover/Tasks" page
  9. Enable the option to "Send diagnostic information"
  10. Watch a problem channel for at least 10 minutes
Reply back and provide us the device ID of your HDHomeRun and we will check the logs. You can find the device ID on a label on the bottom of the HDHomeRun itself.

OK.... I've done as you asked. The device ID is 10A9E991.
I had the channel up for about 20 mins and then it crashed.

The HDHomeRun's network link is frequently dropping and reconnecting. Please try a different network cable and connecting to a different port on the switch/router. You can see this in the System Menu > System Log if you want to monitor locally. The logs times are UTC so subtract 4 hours for EDT.

Thanks. I reconfigured my home data network and the problem was largely eliminated. I only had one "loss of signal" event last night with only a couple streaming glitches.
