Hi all
I've had a HDHomerun for a fair few years now and really like it. However, we recently splashed out on a new high end 77" LG G4 TV only to discover that there is no longer a HDHomerun app for newer LG TVs!
Why is this? Surely LG are one of the main TV producers these days along with Samsung and Sony?!
Is there one on the horizon? Is there a beta program or a way to sideload one?
Gutted that I can't use HDHomerun on our new TV without having to use a third party media player like an Amazon Fire stick - I was hoping to get rid of all of those!
Thanks!
Why no longer a HDHomerun app for LG tvs/webOS?

That's on LG as they chose not to allow the app on most of their more modern tv's as well as outside US (possibly Canada).
Supposedly the problem is with intermittent caption support which is also on them as all the lg app does is hand off to the internal player which also handles the captions.

We are in the process of resubmitting to LG again and trying to get it all straightened out, if possible.

Thanks for the reply NedS.
That's encouraging, fingers crossed then. I don't suppose it can be sideloaded manually can it?

I have 2 LG TV (A G3 and a C4) - in both cases i can access the tuners of my HDHR Primes via the inputs screen of my sets.
Now for my purposes , thats all i need. I would imagine if you are looking for the functionality of the app (the guide/dvr and other stuff) that would be an issue

Thanks, but it's more the DVR I use it for. We have a decent aerial on the LG TV so can get 'live' terrestrial TV but we rarely watch anything live, usually just recorded. Hopefully it'll return soon (I keep checking the LG App store - there's a lot of garbage they do accept on there!
)

OMG, thank you for that. I wasnt aware you could do that. Finally I can watch locals on my G3 which is no where near any antenna jacks.billmich wrote: Thu Mar 06, 2025 6:47 am I have 2 LG TV (A G3 and a C4) - in both cases i can access the tuners of my HDHR Primes via the inputs screen of my sets.

Is there any update on this? Just wondering if it's been resubmitted to LG. Thanks

It is probably worthwhile to just get an inexpensive streaming gadget at this point - for over-the-air in the US, the onn google tv 4k boxes are a safe bet.
As all TVs sold now are 'smart' I think this sort of gotcha will happen more and more in time as the software smartness becomes obsolete and unsupported long before the hardware. A decent (yet throw away - because they go obsolete, too) external device will be the bandaid for that.

Yeah, thanks, we already have a Fire Stick, which HDHR works fine on, but having to then pick up the Fire Stick remote, change input and use a different layout to the LG one to access is more of a faff (especially for a 7 year old and my wife!). When I've paid 3 grand for a telly I was expecting all the apps to work well on the main TV OS!
