---- Unable to play channle ---- DRM issue ?

---- Unable to play channle ---- DRM issue ?
I normally use my Adroid TV boxes in our home (ONN boxes)
I started up my HD Homerun Windows app, and went to view FOX new/Business Channels on Windows 11 machine
This is the message I receive
"" Unable to play channel:""
"" The broadcastewr has applied usage restrictions to this content tht prevents viewing on this device""
If it is a DRM issue, why does DRM channels play on Android Boxes
But only recently NOT on my Windows 11 computer?
Any thoughts on what has happened or if something has changed?

Re: ---- Unable to play channle ---- DRM issue ?
Typically display resolution and hdcp or mirroring display. I have also seen such happen if an attached display is off as it can't confirm hdcp. Also windows typically requires the official codecs.
See: https://info.hdhomerun.com/info/drm
I would also ping the hdhr and note the ms trip if 5 or more you may have trouble (see this a lot with moca particularly if there is also wifi involved). It is supposed to allow up to 7ms but I have always seen "5" being reported also cause such rtt trouble.

First, make sure you have the latest version of the HDHomeRun app installed. Go into the Microsoft Store and search for HDHomeRun, and click Update if it available. If that doesn't help, we would like to get some diagnostic data to see what is happening:
- In a web browser go to http://hdhomerun.local
NOTE: That address will go do the first HDHomeRun device found on your network. If you have more than one HDHomeRun device, use the "device ID" printed on the bottom of the unit instead of "hdhomerun" in the address. For example, if your device ID was 104FFFFF then you would go to http://104fffff.local - If it tells you that a firmware update is available, please install it
- Click "System Menu"
- Check the "Send diagnostic information" box (if this box is already checked, please un-check then re-check it)
- Go back one page
- Click "Channel Lineup"
- Click on "Detect Channels"
- After the scan finishes, open the HDHomeRun app
- Go into the app settings: the gear icon in the top right corner of the "Live/Recorded/Discover/Tasks" page
- Enable the option to "Send diagnostic information"
- Try to watch a DRM channel
Re: ---- Unable to play channle ---- DRM issue ?
I am experiencing the same issue. Everything was working fine yesterday. Should I follow the same steps outlined above?
EDIT: It's not just the Windows player. I checked out the iOS app (latest version) on my iPhone 16 Pro running iOS 18.3 and I experienced the same problem. My Chromecast with Google TV device is still working.

Appreciate teh feedback
sorry took so long to respond,. never received notice from HD Forum of any reponse posts.
Overall, I have HDHomeRun running for some years, and every time something like this happens its related to DRM
My monitor resolution 1920x1080 and HDCP (Pass) have both been in compliance since using HDHomeRun app.
So in this specific case, I dont see this as an issue causing the problem.

Reply back and provide us the device ID of your HDHomeRun and we will check the logs. You can find the device ID on a label on the bottom of the HDHomeRun itself.

The issue happens with the Prior Firmware Version,
( prior version being just before, the most recent version that was released)
( I always stay up to date with patches, firmware etc on pretty much everything computer related)
I have installed the latest Firmware version some days back, and also I always perform a channel scan,
( I do it multiple times a year, just to make sure its in tune)
But the issue not being able to view DRM channels persists on Window 11 Pro x64
But not an issue playing DRM on my 2 OON Boxes
I just triggered Send Diagnostic Info

Re: ---- Unable to play channle ---- DRM issue ?
Apps for windows and ios platforms were updated for certificates about 2 years ago this month... android had an issue late last year and I am not sure it was really fixed, as the api that was causing it to fail obtaining new certificates was brought back up by google (they were working on a workaround to not be dependent on that api but not sure they ever finally did such since it just started working again before such app update). It wouldn't surprise me if it were such certificate issue since it appears to be happening on windows and iOS and given it was two years this month. But hopefully the diagnostics logs sent to SD will reveal something. Unfortunately I can't easily test for cablecard/drm issues any longer as last summer my provider changed my neighborhood to iptv so dropped cablecard support (essentially switching rfog to pon as the onu's wouldn't accept high split... the neighborhoods around me still offer traditional cable).
Re: ---- Unable to play channle ---- DRM issue ?
What you have mentioned regarding 2 years ago in regards to the update for Windows, and iOS, makes sense to me, expiration.
I had ( as many other did too) experience the most recent Anroid Certificate?DRM issue,
and at that time my Windows App had no problem with playing DRM channels, but the ONN Androud boxes did,
This time, its just the opposite,
ONN Anroid boxes play DRM, and Windows doesn't

Re: ---- Unable to play channle ---- DRM issue ?
Any progress on this issue? DRM channels still won't play on iOS and Windows player apps.
Re: ---- Unable to play channle ---- DRM issue ?
Everything was submitted last week and we're waiting on the new certificate.

Re: ---- Unable to play channle ---- DRM issue ?
Appreciate the update Jason
Re: ---- Unable to play channle ---- DRM issue ?
Cert received, app updates in the works.
Re: ---- Unable to play channle ---- DRM issue ?
My Windows 11 drm playback also stopped working. I wasted some time with drivers etc. (my hardware setup hasn't changed from when it was working) so I hope the Windows Store app will be updated soon. Thanks.
Never mind. I just got the Windows Store HDHomeRun app update to 1.1.453.0 and now drm channels are working again. I had to do an app reset.

DRM contents plays on my Windows PC, but not on my Android TV (Sony Bravia)

Re: ---- Unable to play channle ---- DRM issue ?
That is to be expected right now and if it happens to currently work for you in android expect it to cease working "soon" until they have an update. The problem is verifying the system with the install/renewal of the certificate according to viewtopic.php?p=403385#p403385
