Older Firestick with HDHomeRun

Post by titantractor271 »

I've been using a 1st Gen Firestick for years and in trying to diagnose why HDHomeRun runs so slow on it, I realized the software is intended for 2nd Gen Firesticks. While it still works, would I solve my problem that the Firestick runs so slow in changing channels on HDHomeRun?

Note1: I was trying to side load the Samsung HDHomeRun software but I can't get into developer mode.
Note2: I still love the reliability of the HDHomeRun system. I am planning on building up my system more in the coming months.

Yeah just send that off to e-waste and get a newer model. The first-gen stick was really awful: slow CPU, not enough RAM, and it would overheat after about an hour of heavy use because they didn't account for heat when designing it. The new 4K Sticks work really well, and they're regularly on sale for $30 or less.

Dump that 1st gen firestick. I can't even believe you can get it to work at all, they're so slow. Same with the second gen firestick. You can get new firesticks for under $20 when Amazon has them on sale but, honestly, I'd get the 4kmax (2nd gen) for the 16GB storage and fastest processors for futureproofing.

Thank you folks. I ordered a Gen4 4K and it screams. Unfortunately my whole house has about 5 Gen1 and perhaps my mobile units also....

Hi! Getting a new Firestick version could fix the slow speed with HDHomeRun, as new ones are quick and work better. Try to update the software to see if it gets better, but a new model might be the best fix. :)

The new model solved all the problems. I have at least 5 or 6 to go to the e-trash.
