I'm working on cutting the cord, and the HD HomeRun Flex4K is my second runner up right now.
I'm really shocked that it's advertised as having 100Mb Ethernet, but doesn't support gig E.
I'm also surprised that the USB port is type A and not type C.
Is there a new hardware revision in the pipeline that would support gig E, and USB-C or a new model all together?
Gig Ethernet and USB C on Flex4K?

The USB port on the Flex is to connect an optional external storage for recordings, and most USB storage devices use USB-A. You can also run the DVR engine on an another computer, NAS or home server and have all the recordings stored there.
Even if you have all 4 tuners running at the same time streaming non-bitstarved HD channels, you still won't come close to 100 Mbps.

Re: Gig Ethernet and USB C on Flex4K?
I understand what the port is used for, and my intent is to connect an external disk. I may also at some point connect my NAS.
While I agree that there are quite a bit of type A external disks out there, it's unquestionable that the amount of type C available is more than double and the price points are similar, no doubt due to the architecture improvements and r/w speeds.
A typical 4k HD stream consumes roughly ~25mbps give or take. With 4 4k streams, that would be the full 100mbps. The Flex 4k only has 2 ATSC 3.0 tuners, and 2 ATSC 1.0 tuners, so that in and of itself would not create an issue.
I'm hoping I can get an answer from someone officially with SD.

There are no OTA 4K broadcasts. The most you get with ATSC 3.0 is a HEVC 1080p feed with faux HDR that's upconverted from the same 1080i and 720p network feeds as their ATSC 1.0 counterparts.

Most stations run SDI at 1080p60. This is done to generate 720p60 for cable without interlacing and 1080i60 for broadcast. Now with ATSC 3.0 you get the full 1080p60.kyl416 wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2025 10:07 pm There are no OTA 4K broadcasts.
