Broadcasts suddenly traverse back in time while watching

Post by slinky »

I have strange behavior on a Windows machine using the SiliconDust HDTC-2US-M HDHomeRun EXTEND.

Watching a program for a while, lets say 40 minutes, will result in sudden time shift backwards. Apparently it automatically records the program I'm watching to be able to go backwards or forwards in time. I might be watching a football game in third quarter and suddenly I'll be shifted to the first quarter without doing anything. I don't have the DVR service or any extras. I've deinstalled and reinstalled and the same behavior continues.

On another note, I love the product but ABC TV has started to broadcast in a way which the device no longer receives signal. It's a terrible disservice to the public and I'm sure has nothing to do with the issue above I'm seeing but may need to replace the device eventually anyway.

If you have the DVR software installed on your network, even without a DVR subscription, it will attempt to use that device as a live TV buffer. It's possible that it's restarting that live TV buffer for some reason. First let's try just removing the DVR software. It looks like you might have it installed on a Windows PC, so find the Windows PC that has the HDHomeRun Setup utility installed (different from the viewer) -> Open the Setup utility -> Click on the "DVR" Tab -> Uncheck "Use this PC for recordings" and finally click "Apply".

Thank you! This might be the issue as it was checked. It's a fantastic feature and glad it's there. I just didn't know why it kept reverting. We're back in business.

I love the build quality on this device. In the years I've had it I can't recall any real issues with it. My only hope it is to improve the UI a bit. ;) Otherwise... all great! Thank you!

I've seen that symptom (looping back to a previous spot in the show) when I run out of space on the drive on the pc I'm running the recorder on. Once I freed up disk space, the problem went away.

It has happened to me as well. In retrospect, my SCRIBE was quite full when it time traveled and I haven't seen it do this since I opened up more space on the SCRIBE.

I have plenty of space on the hard drive. For reasons I can't explain, if use the hard drive as a DVR is selected it will traverse back in time. I've unselected it for now. It was getting really annoying paying half attention to sports games and then noticing that I had it on in the background and about 60 minutes behind live game time!
