HD Homerun NOT detected on my home network

Post by jco23 »

The HD Homerun desktop app for Windows is no longer detecting my HD Homerun prime on my home network. However, the web interface does and scan for channels. HD Homerun Setup version 20231214. Is there a newer version I need to use?

when trying to watch on my Android TV or windows PC, I see that the version is 20241031, and just says that No HDHomerun Tuners found.

thanks!

Is the app on Android TV still working for watching TV?

Does the Windows PC have any third-party firewall, security, antvirus, antimalware, or VPN programs in use?

the app on Android TV is NOT working for watching TV. It was working fine as of 6pm EST today. I noticed it was not as of 8:30pm EST today.

the windows PC does NOT have any 3rd party firewalls, extra security, antivirus, antimalware, or VPNs in use.

conversely, I can watch the programming on my Google Pixel 8.

I tried re-scanning for the channels (successful), and moving my HD Homerun device to a different location in my home - but still not able to watch them on Android TV or windows PC.

Are the PC and Android TV using wired or wireless connections?

What is the layout of the home network?

PC and android TV are both hard wired.

not exactly what you mean by layout of the home network, but I'll try:
FiOS home internet
ONT-> Linksys Router System with one primary and two nodes (one is wireless and the other is hard-wired via coaxial cable)
the HDHRPrime was connected via coxial directly to the main entry point of the network, and then connected via ethernet cable to primary router
additionally, I have a NAS server for Plex, and I can watch TV via Plex.
let me know if you need additional details

edit: I can watch TV through the HD app on my Roku devices, but still not on Android TV and Windows PC.

I'm happy to report that my Android TV is back to showing the channels from the HDHomerun Prime. The app on that device is working as well.

however, my windows PC is still NOT finding the tuner, and neither is my LG TV.

The LG TV is showing this error:
Version 20241031
Using webOS API(LG)
Discovering webOS devices...
webOS Discover error
SyntaxError: Unexpected end of JSON input
No HDHomerun devices found on network; cannot continue

Windows PC is showing this error:
Version 20241031
Using Async Platform API

No HDHomerun Tuners found

I have tried rebooting my network and unplugging/plugging back in the HDHomerun Prime device.

please let me know if there are any other steps I can take to resolve.

Does the PC have the network marked as private?

Is the PC wired to the main router where the HDHomeRun is or one of the other nodes?

PC Network Profile type is Public

the PC is hard-wired to a bridge, which is connected via coaxial to the primary router. I've also tried via WiFi on the PC, but still no avail.

The HDHomerun Prime is connected via ethernet cable directly to the primary router.

You would want your network on private, not public since you are on your own private network rather than a public network where you don't know who is authorized to be on the network thus it locks your machine down more... unfortunately even MS's copilot messes such distinction for a home and makes it only sound you want private in the home only to share a printer while private is for a business/enterprise.

Otherwise you will need to open up the firewall a bit such as accepting all traffic to/from the hdhomerun (easiest with ip reservation for the hdhr) and may also need to give special app permission (im not sure windows store apps can do that on public networks similarly to how they need a loopback exemption for a dvr on the same machine)

thanks for the tip, but setting my PC to private does not allow it find the device.

conversely, i have another windows laptop that does see the device and can connect to it. just not sure why my primary PC and LG TV cannot.

We would like to get some diagnostic data to see what is happening:
  1. In a web browser go to http://hdhomerun.local
NOTE: That address will go do the first HDHomeRun device found on your network. If you have more than one HDHomeRun device, use the "device ID" printed on the bottom of the unit instead of "hdhomerun" in the address. For example, if your device ID was 104FFFFF then you would go to http://104fffff.local
  2. If it tells you that a firmware update is available, please install it
  3. Click "System Menu"
  4. Check the "Send diagnostic information" box (if this box is already checked, please un-check then re-check it)
  5. Open the HDHomeRun app
  6. Go into the app settings: the gear icon in the top right corner of the "Live/Recorded/Discover/Tasks" page
  7. Close and reopen the app
Reply back with the device ID for your HDHomeRun and we will check the logs.

so that address does not work for me, but I am able to navigate to it via the IP address. from there, i unchecked/rechecked the "send diagnostic information" box.
when I open the HDHomerun app, I'm unable to see the settings. i just the error and "retry" or "exit"
my device ID is 1311519D
thank you for your help!

i think I found the issue. i'm using a G1100 Verizon Router/modem as a bridge along with Linksys Routers. When the computer is hard-wired to the coaxial cable (which connects directly to the bridge), it's using a 192.168.x.x IP Address. When on WiFi, it uses the Linksys IP Address 10.80.X.X.

So maybe I just need to further configure the bridge to NOT use that IP Address.

If it's running on a different range then it's acting as a router, not as a bridge.
