Powering HDHomeRun Flex over Power over Ethernet (PoE) splitter?

Post by joshz »

Does anyone know if it's possible to power a HDHomeRun using a PoE splitter? I'd like to place this closer to the antenna, which doesn't have an AC line near it.

From reddit

"It doesn’t, but you get a box that splits the poe out to a barrel connector of the appropriate voltage/polarity and with enough current and it will power your device. The plus side of this if you already have a poe switch, is you can easily power cycle a box if needed. You also have less ac plug clutter"

It is not recommended or supported and may lead to performance issues if the voltage delivered is not stable. Additionally, please note that the HDHomeRun is designed for use in 0-40 °C (32-104 °F) ambient temperatures, and should not be installed outdoors or in a non-climate-controlled attic.
