What could be going on with my Flex 4k?!?

Reception, channel detection, network issues, CableCARD setup, etc.

What could be going on with my Flex 4k?!?

So as said in my past post the coaxial jack became loose on my HDHomeRun Quatro, so I thought I'd use my Flex 4K. well that didn't go well. When I'm using it had looking at hdhomerun.local I can see the Symbol Quality going from 0% to 100% and back and forth, when I was using the Quatro I didn't have this issue.

What I see when viewing the channels is pixelating and just failed recording because of this, so I'm wondering what is going on with the Flex?

Thanks for any help.

oh and to note the channel I'm viewing is an ATSC 1.0 channel.

We would like to get some diagnostic data to see what is happening:
  1. In a web browser go to http://hdhomerun.local
    NOTE: That address will go do the first HDHomeRun device found on your network. If you have more than one HDHomeRun device, use the "device ID" printed on the bottom of the unit instead of "hdhomerun" in the address. For example, if your device ID was 104FFFFF then you would go to http://104fffff.local
  2. If it tells you that a firmware update is available, please install it
  3. Click "System Menu"
  4. Check the "Send diagnostic information" box (if this box is already checked, please un-check then re-check it)
  5. Go back one page
  6. Click "Channel Lineup"
  7. Click on "Detect Channels"
  8. After the scan finishes, open the HDHomeRun app
  9. Go into the app settings: the gear icon in the top right corner of the "Live/Recorded/Discover/Tasks" page
  10. Enable the option to "Send diagnostic information"
  11. Watch a problem channel for at least 10 minutes
Reply back and provide us the device ID of your HDHomeRun and we will check the logs. You can find the device ID on a label on the bottom of the HDHomeRun itself.

As with most things they don't happen when you try to TS when lol, but the Device ID: 10A19FA9


Edit I did move the HDHomeRun further away from the Antenna, I wonder if that could be what is causing the now potential resolution.

Start with an LTE/5G filter that blocks the 600MHz band as you have extremely strong 5G signals coming in, and that can overload the input to the HDHomeRun, which can distort signals and cause reception problems, especially on channels that have less than stellar reception to begin with (e.g. PBS/ABC). well do and it makes sense since I can see a cell tower from my doorstep lol

and since ABC changed the location of where they are broadcasting out of and now my antenna now is pointed in the direction of the cell tower.

I want to get a second hdhomerun and split the signal into both, do I install this filter before or after the splitter?

Many will place it as close to the antenna as possible... I have found that I need one closer to the devices especially in some rooms (cell tower is <100 yards away). Usually that is fine right before a split between devices (so you don't need multiple filters). I have a another atsc3 device that is at the closest point of my house to the tower and prefers a filter directly on it rather than the one prior to distribution. Though this should never really be the case with good cables and all wall jacks properly terminated, I have seen many times directly on the device works best thus a filter for each device might be called for, but it does vary.

So update, the Flex 4k wouldn’t work with or without the filter for the channel I’m most interested in which is channel 12.1 pixelation and symbol quality at 0%.

I was able to get the Quatro working again and with or without the filter it was working great.

So idk what is going on with the Flex 4k.

It looks like you turning off the sending of diagnostic data the other day so I can't see what it looks like now.

What zip code are you in?

Do you want me to turn it back on for the Quatro or the Flex? And keep it on?

I guess turn both on to compare.

What direction do you have your antenna pointed? When KSAT moved broadcast towers, it was from one side of Calaveras Lake to the other. From your location, it shouldn't have been more than a couple of degrees in heading.
