Apple does not support DD passthrough on the Apple TV platform.
Current state of Apple TV app
Re: Current state of Apple TV app
The main thing that I'd like to do that I can't currently do with the Apple TV app is to turn off the "slice guide" along the right edge of the screen. Much cleaner without that. It's distracting, cluttered, and at the times when I get over there by accident, takes time to figure out where focus is and to get focus back to the row of controls at the bottom of the screen.MrDoh wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2024 9:42 pm Just got the HDhomerun flex 4-tuner for use with our Apple TV's. By comparing the Fire Stick 4K HDhomerun app with the Apple TV HDhomerun app, I see that there is very little in "Settings" for the Apple TV app. You can't turn off the "Slice Guide", or see the amount of DVR storage remaining on the attached USB disk on the Apple TV app. Also, when I activated my DVR with the subscription I had to do that in the Fire Stick 4K HDhomerun app.
Curious how soon we might see these basic "features" in the app? The Apple TV app seems to be pretty stable, just missing a few things the other HDhomerun apps have.
Thanks!
Re: Current state of Apple TV app
The team that handles the interface for Apple TV is looking at what would be involved with providing an option for disabling the slice guide.
Re: Current state of Apple TV app
On Apple TV, the Next Gen channels only give one line of text in closed captions. Different channels handle it differently, some overwrite the whole line, some only part of it. The regular channels work fine.
Re: Current state of Apple TV app
In the interim, I've decided to go with the Channels DVR with our Apple TV's. It is much cleaner, and more fully functional. I'd really like to see the HD Apple TV app improved, but waiting while using a lame app isn't really one of my strong suits *smile*. I'm watching for progress via the forum, but not holding my breath at this point.MrDoh wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 12:13 amThe main thing that I'd like to do that I can't currently do with the Apple TV app is to turn off the "slice guide" along the right edge of the screen. Same here, I let my sub expire. Its been a year and the APP still sucks. Its almost like its programmed for you to watch some of the commercials you really want to skip. Navigation is pure garbage. I might even try the new ****** once their apple app matures.
Re: Current state of Apple TV app
My 2 cents....I just moved to HDHR from the new *****, admittedly on Android. HDHR has demonstrated much better performance and technical support. I cannot recommend ***** at all.
Re: Current state of Apple TV app
The HDHomeRun app has one-button-ad-skip. To advance 30s (ie to skip one advert) press or swipe right once on the remote control.
We are not tracking any issues with skipping forward/back - are you seeing a problem?
Do you mean skipping forward/back when playing a recording? This is one of the key features of the HDHomeRun app. What problem are you seeing?
Re: Current state of Apple TV app
I'm with you, moved from the asterisks OTA DVR to HDhomerun about a month ago...very buggy, looked to me to be likely that they had to dump a bunch of their technical expertise when acquired by the astericks company last year. I may be wrong about that, the source of all the wide spread bugs may be entirely different, but they've been very slow to fix the many bugs that their device has for some reason.
For me, it was a no-go just based on the fact that you can't (and won't) be able to watch a show that's currently recording to go through commercials using the Apple TV. Which, to me, is part of the DVR functionality that I expect. I've been doing this for years with the nightly news, waiting about 15 minutes after it's started, and then using the recording. I can click through the commercials...at least with the HDhomerun. Not with that poor bug-ridden asterisks OTA DVR, though, they won't be changing that.
Very disappointing to me, I used the legacy asterisks OTA DVR for about 6 years with few problems, fully functional with the Apple TV. So another warning about how things can always be worse *smile*.

"Full-framerate deinterlacing is progressing."
Has it progressed in the last 2 months ??

tu for the update
Re: Current state of Apple TV app
We just got an Apple TV, and the main pain point for me is the video delay skipping forward/backward. The audio skips instantly, but the video takes 3-5 seconds to catch up. We previously had an Nvidia Shield TV, and skipping was instantaneous. Is there a reason the platform struggles in this area?
Re: Current state of Apple TV app
No issues like that with Apple TV.Casimir wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 8:04 pm We just got an Apple TV, and the main pain point for me is the video delay skipping forward/backward. Ethernet or WiFi? Wondering if you might be on the edge of WiFi range and getting poor throughput.
