Cheapest DVR for our Prime tuner

Post by otaku »

I have a DVR account and I'm looking for the least expensive way to setup a DVR for our 2 Primes.

Thanks!

If you have a dvr account and an engine running that is all that's typically needed (assuming cablecard and subscription from your cable company) unless you need drm support then the only thing is wmc to record protected cablecard content from a prime. If tuning clear qam from your cable provider (without cablecard) the dvr will only be able to record things that have proper guide data (i.e. the channel may not have a name and virtual channel number to get guide listings).

I may also have misunderstood your question as you may have been asking about what to run the engine on... I find a NAS best to run the engine on but nearly anything that runs windows, linux or macOS can work well with sufficient storage.

Yes, we have a dvr plan but... no NAS.

Question, would this Synology but capable of running the DVR HDHomeRun Software? https://www.amazon.com/Synology-2-Bay-D ... r=8-4&th=1

Thanks!
