Usability Issue - Buttons too Close - iPad App

Post by ronj »

I love the new iPad app. The jump forward and jump back buttons are too close to tap them reliably though. Please space those buttons out and also allow us to double-tap the left and right side of the main screen to jump back and forward as well.

To be more clear since no one has replied, the slider bar that advances and can be used to scrub forward and backwards sits too close vertically to the jump forward/back 30 second buttons. When you try to tap jump forward/back sometimes you accidentally hit the slider button which jumps you from your current point to near the beginning of the show.

The jump forward/back buttons are also too small per the ipad usability spec. Which is why they are often missed when you tap.

Finally, the tapping on the half of the screen (right half or left half) should jump you forward or back since those gestures do nothing you could easily make it much easier to navigate a recording.

We have an internal meeting tomorrow - I will bring this up.

The OSD bar is optimized for a remote rather than touch and is designed to not hinder other people viewing the TV at the same time. It could be improved for phones and tablets.

I'm digging the idea for an invisible step forward/step backward button as two halves of the screen.

The YouTube app does this on iPad.

With the latest UI update you should now have larger buttons in the center of the screen on iPad and iPhone.

This was long awaited, and is much appreciated!

One minor bug, though. It appears as if the right side of the screen where the guide would appear has a layer blocking some input.

For example-
-tap the screen and the red/pause/ffw buttons appear
-tap the left, top middle, bottom middle parts of the screen and the UI goes away
-however, if you tap the right side of the screen (where the guide would be), it only deselects the buttons. You then have to tap the left, top middle, or bottom middle parts of the screen to dismiss the UI

Awesome. When will this hit the appstore? I don't see any updates when I go to the app store nor any changes in the UI - Version 20240423a (UI).

UI is supposed to be loaded at launch, some platforms may inadvertently cache but the UI version you mentioned is 14 days after it went out so either there was another bug seen forcing such to be reverted or a new ui came out that may no longer implement it or, based on my understanding, a touch screen isn't being detected (my understanding is this feature is only available on phones/tablets with touch screen) .

The UI that came with it was 20240409d

Hmmm it looks and feels the same. Maybe the buttons at the bottom are spread out more? There are no buttons in the middle of the screen though.

It’s an iPad.(7th generation) running iOS 17.4.1
