Atsc 3.0 Orlando

According to Rabbit ears only Wesh 2 and CW are encrypted. Is that accurate?

Probably, give or take any recent changes that Trip hasn't been made aware of.

Orlando's ABC affiliate and channel 27 are owned by Terrier, and as far as I can tell none of their channels that are available in ATSC 3.0 are encrypted. The CBS affiliate is owned by Graham, and same for them. Fox and MyTV are owned by Fox, and they mostly don't encrypt. I don't think any PBS stations encrypt, and it certainly wouldn't make any sense for an operation funded by donations to do so. WESH and WKCF are both owned by Hearst-Argyle, and they're by far the biggest offenders when it comes to encryption.

These are the only two stations (of seven total) in Portland, OR that do encrypt (so far).

No, ...

But I was somewhat disappointed that the two top streaming boxes, Apple TV 4K and Nvidia Sheild, do not have Dolby AC4 audio decoding capability for ATSC 3.0 broadcasts. And have to rely on SiliconDust's cloud audio transcoding service to receive it in PCM stereo.

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. I have a Atmos 5.2.2 setup up and don't want to compromise sound quality. I guess I'll be investing in the new Fire Max stick.

Or buy the Fire TV Cube like I did, which has AC4 decode capability. ...

The new 4k and 4k max (announced yesterday, shipping in about a week or two) specs say the same as the cube for audio when it comes to Dolby atmos and ac4.

I'm getting 5.1 on my Apple tv( no it's not my receiver upgrading). I'm not getting pbs, I guess it has Drm. How do I check if it's DRM if I don't have a PC?

Edit. Watching MLB on Fox, it seems like all channels are getting the same sound like the announcers on all speakers. So, even though my receiver shows all speakers engaged, it's not 5.1 surround.

I think we do some kind of upmixing logic from stereo, so a receiver might be seeing a 5.1 signal.
