TECH5-16DT-4X4 setup or 4 HDHomeRun Flex Quatro

Post by Deakin »

Hi

I want to set up streaming of uk freeview tv on my network on a small 30 caravan site.

I see you have TECH5-16DT-4X4 as a commercial product, how does that work? Does it work the normal app or do you need a server like a tv headend?

Could you buy 4 HDHomeRun Flex Quatro and do the same thing?

I want simulators users to be able to use it. Would flex quatro handle that?

I tried contacting support via email and calling and I didn't get a response so trying here.

I hope someone can help me.

thanks

Richard

The TECH5-4DT-4X4 can operate the same way as 4 x HDFX-4DT units... 16 available tuners operating as first-come-first-served. The TECH has the advantage of being rack mount with a built in power supply.

We are planning a server to provide better tuner resource management for MDU installs.

Hi Nick

thanks for the reply.

Can more than one person watch the same channel so taking up less tuners. I have 30 caravans so I don't want people to have issues with watching tv because too many people are on it at the same time?

Just trying to figure out the best setup.

I have seen people using the tuners with servers like tv headend to stream it which I thinks handles multiple users?

Keep to just use the hdhomerun app

thanks

Hi NIck

Also the https://www.silicondust.com/product/tech5-16dt-4x4/ commercial product says its mullti casts the streams which as far as I understands can hand multiple users but it is a different way of streaming and overload a network if you don't have enterprise grade switches. Which I do.

If it is multicasting the streams how does the client receive the stream?

thanks

Multiple viewers per stream are indeed handled via multicast and do require multicast-aware switches (and a wired network, because multicast over wireless isn't suitable for high data rates). For the client side, you would need something that is multicast aware, and the easiest thing there would be a computer running VLC. Typically these are used in enterprise environments where the TECH device is just one component of a larger system, either combined with an IP set top box that supports multicast, or the video is ingested by another system for further processing and distribution to clients.
