Yes there are different requirements for gateway devices... until a few months ago that was basically the same with STBs in that STBs and gateway devices both required internet access... now STBs at least have an option of not requiring internet access just like TVs (but so far that option is coming soon).

In 7 months their test provisioning server is still unable to generate a certificate that their own test licensing servers will accept.

We can't do anything more until this works - our apps can't connect because the certificates their server provides don't work.

TV broadcasters have chosen to DRM encrypt channels knowing that this doesn't work.

That says about all anyone needs to know about A3SA. Internet distributed keys (in the form of the HTTPS protocol) have only been around since 1994, 29 years ago. Public key encryption goes back nearly 20 years further. If A3SA can't setup a basic key distribution server, with that much history in the technology, it means they are not really trying.

Good luck in getting over this (hopefully) final hurdle so we can move forward. In an ideal world, the FCC would be involved by now to make sure this technology was being deployed in the public interest. Unfortunately, they have long been toothless in making anything move forward. CableCARD and AllVid are great examples of failures based on lack of interest or effort by the FCC.

Thought there were laws that protected Free over the air tv, ie, not had such restrictions or technology that make consumers have to jump through hoops, buy specialized equipment, pay for apps/services that "unlock" the ability to watch protected "free" local tv channels. Especially due to emergency or impending disasters where people need to get local news. But, the FCC seems to not care anymore? NetGen will have the tech to have interactive ads/commercials, just like online streaming sites.

I only switched to using OTA and an antenna back in late 2019, as CATV cost was just too insane. But i guess, the future of OTA is just as monopolistic and catv has been.

That reason given is just mindboggling, Certificate error, and taking 7 months for the A3SA to "fix" their own servers.

SD, how often are you communication with them to resolve this issue?

All notable player devices have some variant of the OS support that is needed. This is a solved/solvable problem.

...ok... good? But no DRM decryption. **** product does, and is certified as well.

YT Lon.tv posted video on the product. It is definitely quirky, NOT as good as SD 4KFlex. The decryption REQUIRES internet connection, each and every time one changes a station. Picture stutters at times - overheating? SD, ya'll been saying "in a firmware update in the future..." are we talking Dec 2023, or Dec 2024?

I thought the orginal members of pearltv were the ones in favor of DRM. You would think they might not be too happy with the certification of a STB that appears to allow an obvious siphon of decrypted output.

I don't think that was intended. I think they rushed this box out the door way before it was ready. Likely a new firmware will lock down the HDMI output. They've already released quite a few updates.
