MacOS prompts for keychain PW when tuning to ATSC 3.0 channel

Post by twobucktoll »

After not quite a year of success with my HDFX-4K here in Orlando FL I've run into some problems this weekend. In case they are related I will summarize them all.
On my iPhone apps (HDHR, Channels, SignalGH) they have been struggling to see my HDHR. It can take a couple of refreshes of the turner list before the tuner shows up. When it does whatever I am trying to do works for a minute then stops. Signal GH for instance starts showing signal strength then freezes. HDHR will show a channel for 30 secs or so then drop out. However, using my Sony TV which knows about the HDHR as a source I can watch TV without much problem -- I watched for about 90 minutes straight this afternoon.

I thought I would try this on a Mac to help isolate the problem and downloaded the HDHR app from the App Store. It worked great on the ATSC 1.0 channels. However, when selecting an ATSC 3.0 channel I got a prompt from what appears to be the operating system:

> HDHomeRun wants to sign using key "privateKey" in your keychain. To allow this, enter the "login" keychain password.

It won't show the program but does seem to lock a tuner. FWIW the Channels app on my Mac can show the ATSC 3.0 channels.

Is this normal? What is this for? Any help troubleshooting my iOS problems also appreciated!

Interesting. There is signing involved but it shouldn't be prompting you for permission. I will check with my team on Tuesday.

I too am seeing the pop-up message when I attempt to access any of the four ATSC 3.0 channels in the Dallas/Fort Worth market (all using the same transmitter):

HDHomeRun wants to sign using key "privateKey" in your keychain.

To allow this, enter the "login" keychain password.

Password: [space to enter password]

[Always Allow] [Deny] [Alllow]

I'm getting this message when using the HDHomeRun Mac app on an M1 Mac Mini.

I am not having any problems on an iPhone using the HDHomeRun iOS app.

Is there a solution? Thanks!

Never had any prompts on my iOS or MacOS (M1 & M2) devices for the ATSC 3.0 channels in DC area. Perhaps location unique?

We understand the problem and are looking into it now...

No security issue.
