scanning ATSC3 channels with ATSC1 hdhomerun?

Post by orbot »

I've noticed a few guys on the RabbitEars Live Bandscan are scanning in ATSC3 channels with their old ATSC1 hdhomeruns (the Live Bandscan uses the hdhomerun_config 'scan' command).

Device ID 1016.... = (WUPX, WNAB) https://m.rabbitears.info/index.php?req ... 193C&tno=0
Device ID 101B.... = (KQCA) https://m.rabbitears.info/index.php?req ... 289E&tno=0
Device ID 1048.... = (several) https://m.rabbitears.info/index.php?req ... e=ET&unit=
Device ID 1015.... = (KWGN) https://m.rabbitears.info/index.php?req ... e=ET&unit=

So I've been wondering, could that be possible with a firmware update or is that because of a hardware update? I'd love it if my four 24/7-scanning HDHR5's could scan ATSC3.

The ones you linked to are all ATSC 3.0 capable tuners reporting the details for the bandscan.

ATSC 1.0 only tuners just report the raw signal strengths but can't decode any data or display a SNR. i.e. look at RF 33 on these bandscans from Connecticut:

That’s why I’m confused, because the Device IDs of the ones I linked are pre-ATSC3 models (the device ID is in the url). IDs starting with 101x are for the two-input HDHR-1 and 104x is for the HDHR-4.

If the software isn't configured properly and there's more than one receiver on a local network, I've seen it pick up one tuner and upload to the ID of another.

Ok thanks Trip, I was hoping there was some special trick but I guess not. :)
