This happens on two different tuners. I sent in diagnostic data today, September 28.

First is at 2000 EST channel 17.1 on my flex (10A1E512)

Next is at 2005 EST on channel 55 on prime (1313241E)

The only way anything is watchable is the 20220705 App (UI version doesn't seem to matter) with live channels. The 08 and 09 app version is even worse, but even with 07 app in live channels it will start to get in a freezing cycle without an obvious trigger. The HDHR app freezes constantly and is currently unusable. Beta UI or not.

There was not due to a Shield update, I've even reset one of my Shields to start fresh.

I understand this is not firmware related, but it's the only thing that did change when all the problems started that I can't rule out?

Frustrated and confused, but please let me know what else I can provide to remedy.

Honestly, I have the same issue, and I have seen no help from SD at all. I feel the same frustrated, this needs to be resolved. For the first time, I am thinking of dropping my cable cards and going with internet TV. I have a cheap ONN, and it works perfectly. The Shield I have to shut off out of disgust and cannot watch tv on it. I don't think anyone from SD seems to care. They don't even answer questions or give a status. I think we are going on one month of this. What nonsense. They removed the video quality settings, and I feel that is also adding to the issue. I think this product is on its way out. Support was never this bad.

Things have been super busy, which is no excuse, I know, but rest assure that this issue is still high on our internal "to-do" list. We're also pretty bad at communicating things and giving updates. We will get to the bottom of this.

Tried 0927 update, and it's even worse on the shield.

Turned on diagnostics. I mostly get only audio and that then stops after 30 sec. I can't even access the slice menu or any other overlay? I'll try to get something else tuned to send to you all. Hardware IDs above. These are all with zero video output. Rolling back for now

Thanks for looking into it!

0747 31 (prime)

The log results are very weird, which is actually a good thing in this case since it gives us a real starting point instead of having to chase ghosts. I flagged the logs and left a note for the engineer who is working on this to review in the morning.

We made a change behind the scenes related to the DRM issue. For those who were having issues, can you please install the latest version of the HDHomeRun app (if you rolled back to an earlier version), turn on the sending of diagnostic data, and try a DRM channel and see what happens?

Hi, I updated and when I went to play a DRM channel it immediately said “video stream ended unexpectedly”. After every update, I will always “clear data” and force stop, then start the app.

I reverted back to 20220621 and DRM works as normal.

A new beta was released today (sideload from https://download.silicondust.com/hdhome ... d_beta.apk) that contains a partial fix to get things working now, and another version that fixes the underlying problem will be released tomorrow.

Nickk,
DRM is working perfectly now with this beta update (20221019 software). Moving forward please advise engineer to keep this DRM code for Prime (13246184). My Connect 4K (1080C8A8) is also working well with ATSC3 and have noticed lip sync is much better as well. Thanks to your team’s hard work. Hoping it stays this way for all future updates. Please let me know when it comes out of beta and will update my 5 other nVidia Shields.

*update* ATSC3 is only decoding 2 channel stereo and not 5.1 as it previously was. I do recall your team mentioning cloud decoding. I do have “audio passthrough” on as always but still is showing 2 channels on my receiver input signal, before it was 5.1 input signal. Any updates for this?

Thank you.

The shield does not support ac-4 so it always should be as "stereo" as it has to use the cloud transcoding service. However typically it will output as really bad 5.1 if that is the speaker count as many devices have issues switching such mid stream such as when a stereo commercial pops up so the app keeps it as such. Is the shield connected to the avr or the tv?

The Shield is connected directly to AVR, this is how I monitor the input signal on my Denon. I do recall the “pops” when it switches from stereo to 5.1 but a way around that was to go in Shields android sound settings and click on “convert stereo to 5.1” so the pops went away. I would always prefer a true 5.1 input signal so I get the center channel for vocal audio.
