Quattro stopped recording to my NAS

Post by RWFarley »

My Quattro (HDHR5-4US) recordings to my (Seagate, n090103) NAS seemed to have stopped in at the end of August.
The "Recorded" tab shows the previously recorded content. Just in case I did the "Putty sudo ./hdhomerun_record start" and got "HDHomeRun RECORD already running".
Whenever I check the "Tasks" tab "Upcoming" shows that the 5 daily shows I have set for recording each are set for tonight. "Settings"/"Devices" says I have 49% of 3.9TB used on my NAS. I can watch TV live on my PC on all the channels I record.

This also happened 2021-10 and I manually D/Led and installed "hdhomerun_record_linux_20210624". Do I need to do something similar now? I don't find instructions for how I got to the update file location....

HDHomeRun: Version 20200529 (App)/20220921 (UI)

The last .log file on my NAS is "20220824.log" The top 5 lines are:
HDHomeRun RECORD 20210624 Linux DE48CC72-8511-4C8E-A703-B045F7A996DB
20220824-00:01:58 Status: Resource: nbk=0 dmk=1436
20220824-00:01:59 Recorded: directory /shares/HDHomeRun/ with 25 subdirs and 0 recordings
20220824-00:03:58 Status: Resource: nbk=0 dmk=1436

Thanks

Seems like you either aren't looking at the correct engine or in the correct recording folder. Something would need to be out there for the client to see recordings but that particular log has none and you should have a newer log file.

Most on synology should probably be looking to use the unofficial docker version (some don't support docker) as by default synology updates prevent the record engine from working unless you either remount /tmp as exec or copy the real recording engine to a place it can run from.

Follow up - It looks like it was an issue with my NAS.
I found the newer "hdhomerun_record_linux_20220822" file but the NAS wouldn't allow me to upload it. I ultimatly restarted the NAS (which found a file issue), and
<uploaded hdhomerun_record_linux_20220822 via Drag & Drop>
PuTTY {IPAddr} {ID} {Password}
cd /shares/HDHomeRun/
sudo mv ./hdhomerun_record ./hdhomerun_record_linux_20210624
sudo mv ./hdhomerun_record_linux_20220822 ./hdhomerun_record
sudo chmod +x ./hdhomerun_record
sudo ./hdhomerun_record start
HDHomeRun RECORD started <---- SUCCESS ??
I started Task of a show in progress and I see it in "Recorded"
In 3 hours I'll see if an "old" Task works.

Hopefully it worked but most having issues with synology need to also then move the "real" engine from /tmp to a place where it can run (such as /shares/HDHomeRun/ ) then actually start the real engine such as hdhomerun_record_x86 or hdhomerun_record_arm alternatively mount /tmp as exec as the hdhomerun_record is an installer that extracts the correct version to /tmp then runs that.

Seagate is not Synology. Seagate made NASes about a billion years ago, and it's somewhat frightening that someone is still running one since I think the last firmware update was in like 2016. Anyway, there is very little resembling security on them and they don't mount /tmp as noexec.

Sorry. Thought he said synology but Seagates also implemented the noexec in an update many years ago when they were having issues as bad as qnap is today.

I think it was Netgear who did that because of getting owned, and OpenMediaVault did it just because it's a good security practice. The big issue with Seagates was that a bunch of them were using some kernel version from like 2009 that lacked support for some function the DVR uses.
